Basavangudi Mela - Hell for Residents
acoward - 27 October, 2010 | Bangalore | BBMP | Complaint | Living | Basavanagudi | noise pollution
Recently, Residents from Police Station Road, Basavangudi sent in this message to complain about "unnecessary blocking of public roads" and noise pollution.
Basavanagudi is an ancient locality in Bangalore South with the mix of residential and commercial establishments. However for the previous two weeks some of the commercial shopkeepers who have the political backing and have the power (both money as well as muscle) are holding the residents to ransom by organizing the mela cultural events during the weekends. These shopkeepers are unnecessarily blocking the road (Police Station Road) and putting loud speakers which are affecting the local residents who comprise of old age people, small babies and heart patients. This has become a fashion for the shop keepers to break rules and trouble the general public.
The residents cannot complain the the police officials as most of the officials are either cheif guests in such events or part to help these shop keepers. What is worrying is that this event is sponsored by Deccan Herald and Prajavani and they are not ensuring that the shop keepers do not conduct these events which create trouble for the general public.
We would request the relevant Police and BBMP intervention and help the residents of Basavangudi Police Station Road.

lodge a formal complaint

If you lodge a formal complaint with the BBMP as well as the Traffic Police, they will have no option other than to act. If they don't, call up Mid-day (or ToI), and they'll be happy to publish the story, particularly if they learn that DC has sponsored the event.
All the best.
