purpose-less even if it exists

Instead of spreading (mis?)-information about 49-O, I would say we all should spread information that even if a supposedly bad guy gets elected, you and me have hundreds of tools and laws to make sure the elected person does his public duty. There is RTI, there are complaint systems, there is PIL system.

What purpose does a negative vote serve anyway? Good leaders are never going to drop from the sky. Hoping for good guys to contest won't help!

  1. Take interest and vote for the best amongst the lot.
  2. And then track your elected representative.
  3. Or, better, just contenst the elections!

Should do at least one of the three in my mind. 2 of above would be a very good citizen. Doing all 3 would be real social service :)

There tends to be too much focus on election and voting, and too little focus on what these guys do after the election.

citizens responsibility

hemaraj - 15 March, 2010 - 15:38

I had inserted the article 49 O  no confidence vote just to bring awareness that such a clause is there.

we , each citizens duty is to vote and try to elect a reaponsible service minded good candidate.

But it so happens some times it the bad versus the worse standing for election, we are not able to do anything, we are forced to vote as there is no choice.

With the inclusion of this we are able to bring fear and all parties will give tickets to worthy candidates.

49-0 - How can it bring any change ?

Naveen - 16 March, 2010 - 11:15

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" - Edmund Burke

This is most apt here. One can imagine that he can use 49-0 to display his contempt for the system, but in what way will he be helping to rectify it ? On the contrary, he is shirking his responsibility to partake in trying to improve the system, for that is what democracy calls for.

There is a misconception amongst many that govt is duty-bound to deliver everything automatically. Well, the govt can only succeed to the extent what the collective voices demand - & if some voices choose to be silent, they would not have registered their demands. Without doubt, this will actually worsen the situation !
