JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy is still smarting over the Lok Sabha poll results in Bangalore. Hurt by the drubbing, Kumaraswamy railed against Bangaloreans at a party workers meet at the Palace Grounds ... “Even after my government started several new initiatives, the electorate rejected the party in Bangalore. I wonder why ...” said Kumaraswamy .... Not mincing words, the former chief minister said that his priority from now on would be to rebuild the party and not the welfare of Bangaloreans. “Let them (Bangaloreans) suffer for the wrong political choices they have made. Let us not bother about them and instead concentrate on building the party,” he said. ... ... The JD(S), which is predominantly seen as a rural party, managed to win just one seat out of the 21 Assembly segments in the BBMP limits. But the former CM hoped to make a comeback in the BBMP polls and appealed to the leaders from Bangalore to convince the electorate.

Now, between '04 and '09, HDK's declared wealth increased from Rs 4.94 cr to Rs 48.47 cr, that is by a whopping Rs 43.53 cr or 881.2%. Simultaneously, his wife, Anita Kumaraswamy declared her assets at Rs 28.58 crore. The son, aspiring drag race champion and of the Museum road hotel skirmish fame, is also a tax assessee (with a number of fancy cars registered in his name, to boot), though the individual wealth is unknown. This is apart from the known and unknown quantum of wealth of the remaining members of the H D Deve Gowda family.

Talking about HDK alone, the increase in wealth by Rs 43.53 cr happened even as he was in full-time politics, some of which as the CM of the state. By no stretch of imagination can politics be this lucrative, officially. Even real estate holdings couldn't have risen in value in this proportion. So, where did all the moolah come from? And, even as HDK says that he can't bother with Bangaloreans, can we afford not to find out how he amassed such wealth, very likely at Bangalore's cost?

First and foremost task will be to reject this master of opportunistic politics and his party (for, by and of the family) wholesale in the forthcoming BBMP polls.

Who's sane?

Murali,

Everyone are entitled for their opinion. Kumaraswamy did try to get a lot of projects sanctioned to Bangalore. He did try to get many ongoing projects in bangalore sanctioned. May be this statement could be a outburst of that.

Everyone knows that prior to power transfer issue, JDS has sweeped almost all the jilla panchayat elections and BJP was relegated to third position.Kumaraswamy is still considered a better administrator in government official circle.

Its only after power transfer issue, he lost his credibility and loose in elections.

And look what we have got now? A worst government which is almost immersed with infighting. My uncle wanted to get transferred to Bangalore, he was asked for 5 lakhs. he recalls that some of his friends were asked rs 50k during revanna's period. The corruption has increased 10 folds in just 1 year.(I think everyone can easily understand which department i am reffering here)

I almost feel ashamed for voting such corrupt party(everyone are corrupt, but this is limits).

Comming to wealth issue, we will see what will be yedyurappa's wealth after 5 years.

Thanks.

I had seen this comment in one of the kannada websites. My opnion was almost similar to this.

ಇನ್ನು ಕುಮಾರಸ್ವಾಮಿ ವಿಷಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬರೋದಾದ್ರೆ right person in wrong party ಅಂತ ಹೇಳಬಹುದು.

ಇನ್ನು ಎಡ್ಡಿ ವಿಷಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬರೋದಾದ್ರೆ wrong person in right party ಅಂತಾನೆ ಹೇಳಬಹುದು.

Not a coincidence that the CDP for bangalore was passed in 1995 soon after the JDS took over and when HDDG was CM

in 2007 RCDP 2015 was passed when HDK was CM but the AT Ramaswamy land ecnroachment report was prepared during the 20 months of HDK  regime and submitted during the Governors rule. THAT IS THE ULTIMATE TRANSPARENCY unpre cedented anywhere in the country.

basically the point being that all political parties would have come to a mutual compromise and whcih will ensure the report will be buried

How much did SMK's wealth increaseduring 1999-2004 pl lets dig up ?

But the biggest increase during this boom was the market caps of RIL DLF etc etc

Personal wealths shot up 1000's fold esp the Ambani's and Bhartis

does the upper middle class spoilt by these gains only question the politicians or keep waiting for another satyam to happen

the biggest real estate developer like DLF began work in the Delhi of 1960's Many politicians personal wealth will be colsely linked in Delhi to the gwoth of DLF but the leopard changed its spots thru the IPO of Jan 2008at BSE and became from black to snow white following US GAAP and SEBI standards etc

the land rate in some sectors of NOIDA went up 200 times in 20 years so who is really leading this phenomenal grwoth of personal wealth

Its too close to call  ...

This is an opinion

Good to see stats there, but Murali sir, you have used stat to support the opinion that you carry.

To play fair for a moment, if HDK has filed public declarations on his net assets, then I am sure he has all the income/investments details to back these numbers up in front of income tax authorities. People in public life are careful enough to not make these basic mistakes.

The fun however is in detailing and diggin out the assets that have not been "delcared". Are there such assets in the first place? Why is nobody interested in digging them up? Are all political parties happy not digging each other up? Is media not interested because they think this digging will not be worth it? Is Lokayukta not interested because there is no complinant? Its a bit hard to buy "conspircy theories" on all these fronts.

Till there is a credible way to track these things (you know all this stuff - properties in the names of uncles and aunts), talks of corruption would be more hearsay than facts.

The funny thing is that people in "right circles" know the "rates", and "reputations" (who eats more, and who eats less), but yet, we don't see our media take interest in what they hear from these "right circles".

The closest I have seen a reputed media-person talk on these lines recently is T N Ninnan via an editorial in Business Standard about an year ago. He mentioned some amounts (but no names at all) that industrialists were known to be paying in a "North Indian" state. He meant UP (there were enough hints), and meant infrastructure and energy companies, but the editorial never took concrete names.

Don't ask don't tell is perhaps how it plays out at higher levels.

While there are a number of other politicians too in the              Millionaires row             (published by India Today), HDK's wealth growth at a stupendous 881.2% stands out compared to the others. Also, while the growth in most other cases, as also those of the Reddy brothers (of Bellary mines fame) and DLF, appear logical, HDK's case clearly defies all logic. There appears to be a clear case of 'assets disproportionate to known sources of income'.
