Kerala - Dumping waste made a criminal offence

A division bench of the Kerala High Court on Monday directed the state police to register criminal cases against all those who dump waste on the streets.

A gram panchayat in Kerala is planning to install night-vision cameras to tackle garbage menace. - - - Edathua, a panchayat mostly of farmers, generates only three tonnes of waste a day. But what bugs these farming commune most is when outsiders sneak into their panchayat and throw garbage at night. - - - - The panchayat has taken up the project in association with the local police, Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (Keltron) and Secure India, a Changanassery-based private player.

Another example worth following for Namma Bengaluru. It is interesting that gram panchayats are now beginning to provide the lead in using technology to solve everyday problems.
