First TTMC Opened
Naveen - 2 September, 2009 | Bangalore | BMTC | Bus | Analysis | Last Mile | Transportation | public transport
The first TTMC has been opened. This is a report from DH.
Nine more TTMCs are under construction ( Banashankari, Vijayanagara, Koramangala, Shanthinagar, ITPL (Whitefield), Bannerghatta, Kengeri, Yeshwantpur & Domlur ). Further, several more will come up later.
These TTMCs are being planned with parking spaces to address last-mile issues. Will they stem the traffic ?

Jayanagar TTMC - 6 Months On
Naveen - 16 February, 2010 - 10:39
It's been almost six months since the first TTMC at Jayanagar was opened for public use. Has it improved conveniences for commuters ?
1) Signage & seating areas are still good & maintained well.
2) Bus bays for different destinations is being followed fairly well.
3) Toilets & drinking water areas are maintained clean.
4) BMTC operations room (the small 1st level area) is in use.
However, some concerns :
a) Pedestrian movement is a serious issue & people tend to cut across lanes designated for moving buses, especially at entry & exit. A warden is posted on the eastern end to direct passengers not to intrude on bus lanes & to stay on pedestrian areas within the rails. Notices are also displayed, but in spite of this, people continue to cross at will - see photos below.
b) Vehicle parking area on terrace is very poorly utilized & remains nearly empty - see picture below. Bylanes around the TTMC (not the main roads) are however, filled with parked vehicles.
b) Commercial areas (2nd & 3rd levels) are still unfinished /unutilized - see picture below.
Signage adequate?

Are there Zebra lines marked at the entry & exits to guide passengers to the right walking areas?

Are there any sign boards around the TTMC indicating parking available?

I have heard the govt wanted offices there for the administrative machinery. So there wont be another big bazaar. Govt offices are good for bus traffic.
A big banner has been

A big banner has been displayed outside the TTMC regarding the parking space available. I am seeign that banner for past 2-3 months.
One good thing is that route nos. are properly displayed and even the skywalk has been removed. Only thing they forgot was to keep a bus stand for market/vijayanagar buses due to which they cramp up teh second row. The display board for BIASes is good showing accurate arrivale departure and proper waiting room for the passengers.
Roads need markings

Zebra signs are missing ! I think the roads also need to bear some direction such as "Out of bounds for pedestrians" in kannada & english.
