Indian Railways has come out with INDIAN RAILWAY VISION 2020. It give clear vision for railways and whats coming up in the near future.
1. Add 25000 Kms of Lines by 2020 with Govt funding & PPP
2. Increasing Passanger Train speed from 110-130KMPH to 160-200KMPH
3. Capacity creation thru Doubling and Quadrupling of lines
4. Freight corriodr between Delhi to Mumbai, Kolkotta, Chennai & Mumbai to Kolkotta
5. Complet gauge conversion except hilly terian
6. Electrification of 14000 Kms
7. Reinevnting of Passanger Services with CHANGE FOR BETTER TOMORROW Will include doubel decker trains, Agument suburban Services
8. Setting up of INDIAN METRO DEVELOPMENT AUTHORUTY
9. Bullet Train Services with speed of 250-300 KMPH on six corridors. The corridors will not cover the Karnataka.
10. Six dedicated freight corridor

Railways ministry to follow highway model for track laying

The Mamata Banerjee-led railways ministry is likely to focus on infrastructure development in the Rail Budget this month
The initiative has perhaps been triggered by the observation made by the prime minister’s Office (PMO) on slow pace of rail infrastructure development
This is in line with Railway Vision 2020. We may see many project goffered / announced for PPP model for freight corridors in the coming Railway budget.
Feasibility of east-west railway freight corridor under study

Union Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa said on Saturday the Railway Ministry was considering the possibility of having a dedicated freight corridor between the east coast and the west coast connecting Chennai in Tamil Nadu and Vasco-da-Gama in Goa as pat of Indian railway Vision 2020
Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd., to study the traffic pattern on the corridor and suggest an altogether new alignment
