Electrification of Bangalore Tumkur and shifting of utilities between Bangalore and Mysore ought to be the priority.
Mysore bound trains need to start from Jnanabharathi to decongest SBC.
Rail Budget 2016: Bengaluru waits for Suresh Prabhu to make good
Sanjeev - 26 February, 2016 - 12:02
In his budget last year, Prabhu had sanctioned the Byappanahalli project in view of the huge demand for train services to and from Bengaluru but the Railways has not been able to introduce new services as both Bengaluru and Yashwanthpur terminals have no spare capacity. The proposed coaching terminal is estimated to cost Rs 125 crore and is critical for the city in order to respond to the growth in passenger traffic.

Railway officials in Bengaluru are hoping for generous support from the Rail Bhavan to kickstart work on the city's ambitious project of third coaching terminal at Byappanahalli as Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu prepares to present his second budget on Thursday.
Since the Railways has decided to implement the Byappanhalli project on its own and not under the PPP model as planned earlier, the Railways wants a budgetary allocation of at least Rs 30 crore to begin with to get the project off the ground soon. Officials say they can create this infrastructure in about three years.
The Railways has begun work on the doubling of 121-km Yelahanka Penukonda line at a cost of Rs 870 crore. There are about 30 pairs of trains running on this section with a record utilisation rate of about 160 per cent. This is a high revenue yielding line because this is the shortest route for the city to north Indian destinations like Mumbai, Delhi and Jaipur.
The Railways will have to build the Byappanahalli terminal by the time the 121-km line is doubled, say railway officials. Once this stretch is doubled, the Railways will be able to introduce 15 new trains but has no facility in the city to park trains and take up their maintenance.
The 80 acre Byappanahalli area can provide an originatingterminating capacity of 25 trains which will be a big advan tage for the city. The Railway officials say they could introduce most train services from east and south India such as Howrah, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu from Byappanahalli and ease the stress on the Bangalore City station.
The Bengaluru Metro station is close by and the Railways plans to connect both stations with an elevated pedestrian walkway. This is expected to help Bengalureans to reach their destination faster. An interstate bus terminus is also located closeby .
The Railway authorities also want the ministry to fund the doubling of the Yesvantpur-Hebbal-Banaswadi section so that it could join the many sections that have been doubled

Kengeri would be a better bet
vatsan007 - 3 March, 2016 - 08:59
Jnaanabharathi is only a halt station with 2 lines. Kengeri would be a better bet for Mysore bound trains.
However, this has to happen only after rail-connectivity between Kengeri and other Bengaluru stations are provided through sub-urban rail. Else, it will be a pain to reach Kengeri from various parts of Bengaluru.
With the present rail budget not clearly allocating funds for sub-urban rail, it is again back to ground zero.
Electrification of B'luru<->Mysuru line should also be priority.
Srivatsan, Kengeri is located
amithpallavoor - 14 March, 2016 - 18:21
Srivatsan, Kengeri is located off Mysore Road. Jnanabharathi is located conveniently on Mysore road and can be easily linked to Metro through an FOB.
The easy availability of land means that we could have a fully developed terminal with stabling and pit lines. Kengeri does not have that much of land.
