Pushpaks getting converted

ss87 - 29 December, 2010 | Bangalore | BMTC | Bus | Analysis | Transportation | public transport | Pushpak

Well one of the most horrible service provided by BMTC is the pushpak service-a single driver-cum conductor, single door, single passage with 5 seats in a row instead of 4 and is one of the least preferred bus for commuting in the city unless there is no other way to go.

Well good news is that  the pushpak buses are getting converted to various other buses such as Ordinary and Atal Sarige and second door has been carved out for some of them-some photos of the same can be seen

The photos attached are few of them found online-apart from these  I have noticed

  • KA-01-F-1994 running from Jayanagar depot on route No.2
  • KA-01-F-3xxx running on route 215D from Jayanagar depot(Same bus which met with accident at 9th block, after driver got heart attack, killing the conductor)

Hopefully we may see all the Pushpaks converted to Ordinaries or Atal Sarige shortly

Pushpak

Good for the people of Bangalore. The driver doubling up as the conductor was one of the most dangerous things on Bangalore roads.

Non-stop services using Pushpak

Vasanth - 31 December, 2010 - 08:17

Some of the core routes like KBS-ITPL , KBS - EC could have been provided with non-stop or very limited stop bus service using Pushpaks which was its original intention. Unfortunately pushpak becomes normal buses in terms of stops as time lapses as we saw with Pushpak 5, now 45G and Pushpak 10.

 Actually look at the

Look at the bus on the above url;

Supposed to be launched but actually was never launched!! Only Vegadootha name was given and this bus ran on route No. 600C(Banashankari to Chandapura) as a normal service and has now gone for FC to get the colour change-No news or any information available about when such service was planned

Hi,

At a time when we(public) hate to board the Pushpak's. The BMTC has called for a tender for 500 no's pushpak and suvarna's. The tender noticfication is published on MONDAY's Times Of India dt: 07/02/2011.

Does having pushpak makes any sense???

minibuses instead of 500 new pushpaks

rackstar - 8 February, 2011 - 05:36

Instead of 500 new Pushpaks they should procure 1000 minibuses. Minibuses should have door in front so that driver alone can give tickets and no need of a conductor.

 Minibuses should have door

Minibuses should have door in front so that driver alone can give tickets and no need of a conductor.

Minibuses have a door but they generally are offset requiring a conductor which skews the cost structure of operating the same. In fact it was mentioned in one of the meetings that BMTC has difficulty in procuring minibuses which are customized to provide a place for smart card devices for the future and also allow for the driver to control the entry & exit via a single door without having to get off his seat. Apparently the cost of the modification is making the procurement & deployment of the same unaffordable. Or the buses which already have it like this are quite expensive. The plan was to import minibuses from china as they are cheaper but the minute the modifications were demanded the cost went up manifold as the assembly line need to be modified and also the vendors demand a certain number of buses to be procured for their business to allow them to do this.

We either have to pay a premium for being pioneers in deployment of the same or wait for the demand across other cities in India to pick up for these kind of buses so the vendors start selling these buses in the market. We paid a premium for the volvo and BMTC were the pioneers of bringing Volvo buses to India. Will they do the same for world class minibuses is for us to wait & watch. Some minibuses are going to run on metro routes, maybe BMTC have fixed the issue or are going to manage with less efficient alternatives till they learn & adopt.

Of course they could let private operators run the last mile minibuses but I think there are ideological issues preventing the trial of the same.

Oh God-BMTC goes crazy at times-Nowadays even Parisara Vahinis and JNNURM go for CC routes why do we require pushpaks again-a very unwanted move by BMTC in this regard just as we were expecting to see a turn around

Interesting to know that existing bus body builders in India cannot customize economically and imports are also not economical. Buses like those shown here are in widespread use in the US as school buses, for intra-university, intra-city transportation and as airport shuttle services (uses also mentioned in the wiki article). An article claims that the minibus has the most number of varieties. Wonder if BMTC has communicated with cities actually running the service or just don't have the required experience.

 Sir,

Regarding the 600C getting painted for the Express service... How did you get the access to the Central work shop of the BMTC.

If it is any of your frnd who got access.. then how.. do we need to take a permission from the BMTC official.
