I happened to read an article in the Indian express today which spoke about the likelihood of Hubli - Ankola railway line receiving environmental clearance sometime soon. Here is the link to the article :

Recollecting the words of Mr K.H Muniyappa, does it mean that the other 2 projects Talaguppa - Honnavar and Bangalore - Chamarajanagar - Satyamangala which are held up due to lack of environmental clearance, would also be cleared because of this???????

Also, everybody speaks of Kadur - Chikmagalur part but not about the Chikmagalur - Sakleshpur part of the railway line, which again I believe is held up for the same reason. Can somebody throw more light on this? I believe it is going to be useful to link Chikmagalur either from Hassan or Sakleshpur, as trains from Mysore to Hubli and Shimoga could be diverted along Chikmagalur town instead of Hassan - Arasikere route.

Times of India edition dated 2-Jan-2013, carried this article about Nanjangud - Nilambur railway line.

Though linking Mysore to Kerala is good for our state, as it allows all trains from Bangalore to Trivandrum or Ernakulam to be run along Mysore, is it really essential to lay a railway line through the Bandipur reserve forests? What is the status of Mysore - Thalassery railway line proposal??

I would be glad to have you all share your knowledge about these...
