Devesh,

Went thru your post on incomplete Cargo (rather shambles) infrastructure. Since it is still in construction stages, is there way, we can help/motivate/watch to ensure that BIAL does the right thing on Cargo side? Basically whether we have still time to  fix the cargo shambles? If yes, how?

pressure!

narayan82 - 23 May, 2008 - 14:51

from what I have heard Menzies Bobba and AirIndia-SATS are working extra time to get it going. The Menzies terminals nearly done, and many says its not complete but still better than what was available. I am sure after maybe a few teething problems it will get sorted out. After all, why would BIAL/menzies/Airindia SATS want to loose out on business to Hyderbad and Chennai??

BIAL fixing the warehouses

Technically, it is not BIAL's problem. They gave the concession to Menzies and AI-SATS and they are responsible.

As an importer or exporter the airport HAS to have the terminal ready. Would you be ready to fly out of BIAL if the passenger terminal is in this shape.

Menzies is only 90% ready.

The worst part of it -- I organised an open house with Customs, BIAL, Menzies, AI-SATS more than 1 month ago. They are on record that the cargo operations are fully ready. Does this imply they came to a public meeting of a Chamber of Industry and lied ?

An airport has to have this FUNDAMENTAL infrastructure before demanding the commencement of operations.

For this week, almost all freighter flights have cancelled their operations to Bangalore.

BIAL will have only one motivation. The pocket book.

Either industry stops using the airport, which is unlikely, or then lodges a civil claim on BIAL for any losses or damages that occur. Which will take forever.

They know, that most Bangaloreans only care about a fancy terminal, rest of the airport be damned. So they are getting away with it.

Even the press does not care.

PIL to go on Cargo issue !

kbsyed61 - 23 May, 2008 - 15:51

Devesh,

Looks like we might be going round and round in fixing the responsibility for this fiasco.

I think the Cargo issue needs a PIL. My suggestion, Lets wait and watch the sitaution for 2 more weeks, if things doesn't improve file a PIL against STA/Menzes, BIAL, Customs and others.

An RTI with Cutsoms should also be filed.

Devesh, take the lead we are with you.

roof

tsubba - 23 May, 2008 - 16:02

devesh, did you observe the directions in which these roofs are beyond the walls and the directions in which the walls are missing? missing roof and walls are pretty common in this part of india as would know. the wind and rain patterns are pretty fixed. is it possible that has been taken into account? i dunno i am asking. also is there an overhang to the building? in any case building up a wall or adding glass in the gap should not be a giant leap in engineering. as narayan pointed out it does not make business sense for who ever is running this show to lose business. perhaps der but may be not andher? meanwhile thanks for highlighting the issues.
