We had learnt a lot of interesting things from our meeting with Mr. Sood. Looks like things are now moving further ahead. Tenders have been floated for installation of Intelligent traffic signals. (Source: TOI). Moreover, over the next year there will also be a lot of action with Area Traffic Control (ATC), Variabe Message System (VMS) etc.

The article is a little unclear about the technical aspects though.

Meanwhile, here is a primer article on Intelligent Transportation Systems.

BUS SHELTERS

pathykv - 5 May, 2009 - 15:10

New jazzy bus shelters are being added at several locations. But it is noticed that-
1. These are not suitably designed to give enough shelter to commuters from rain/sun shine as the ceiling is too high and no covering provided on sides.
2. The new additional  shelters are being built at the same locations where old shelters exist. These are redundant and block the scarce foot path space.
3. No shelters are being built where they do not exist (e.g.- H.A.L. II Stage 12th Main/ 100ft.road junction towards Domlur, Kodihalli towards Jeevan Bima nagar on J.B.Nagar Main Road).
4. It is presumed that these shelters are for the convenience of commuters. However 90% of the hoarding space is taken by advertisements. The bus stop name is written in such tiny letters that it is almost invisible. At least 50% of the space should be earmarked for the bus stop name (in Kannada and English). Route maps to be shown inside thehelters.
5. The correct name of the stop should be written instead of the road names as there are many stops on the same road.
