Mr. RK Chari a Praja Member is setting up an engagement for discussions with the Government of Karnataka regarding remodeling of the existing roads network in the city of Bangalore with a brand new patented technology of his company Atlantis. He has gracefully agreed to share with Praja the presentation he will be giving to the concerned Ministers of the cabinet.
The roads have to be remodeled to incorporate the changed design of the SWD. The storm water drains are no longer "Drains" but are ground water chargers of the rain water in to the earth in situ. The new technology employs an Australian patented technology of recharging the ground water in situ, rather than transporting the rain water to a distant lake.

Dear Ananthram Garu,
Am delighted to get this forum to showcase our new technology to Praja Members. Please note this will not be a session to promote my Company - only to share knowledge. However, since it is patented technology, some reference to the Company would be inevitable.
My request to CM and other Ministers connected with Bangalore infrastructure is still pending. As also with the ABIDe Task Force.
See as many of Praja Members as possible on Saturday 1st August at your residence.
Regards & Many Thanks,
RKC
I will attend

I will make it, most probably - will confirm friday night.
BTW - The title states SWD, but the description that follows states roads. Psaram - I think you need to amend this error.
The Event has been ammended to clarify the doubt

Thanks Naveen for the suggestion. It helped me to make the intent of the talk more clear.
SWD & ECO ROADS

Friends,
Actually the two are closely interrelated. What ruins the roads is hydrostatic pressure caused by rain water getting trapped in fissures on impermeable roads. The tendency for SW to get into fissures is a natural phenomina. Once it gets trapped, it contracts and expands during a 24 hour temperature change which further exasperates the situation. One therefore ends up having potholes and water puddles galore.
The Engineers who have hitherto been designing impermeable roads automatically thought of "taking storm water runoffs to some place else". Hence the concrete or rough granite lined impermeable open storm water drains on either side of every road - to literally drain away something which spoils our roads.
This concept has been long done away with in all modern cities of the world. Germans were the first ones to realise that their autobahns need to be 'levitated' to survive the rigours of weather changes and cars and heavy vehicles being driven at great speeds.
So an ecological road is one which has a layer of drainage cells underneath the pervious bitumen coating which ensures the road does not get damaged by storm water. The same principle is then applied by building infiltration tanks on either side of the road with pervious pavers for sidewalks where rainfall runoffs get sucked into the underground tanks where they lie for a period of time before gradually disbursing in all directions because of the honeycomb design of the infiltration tanks that are fully covered with geo-textile, sand, compacted gravel and topped up with flogrid like pavers. So one gets extra road space and not a drop of water gets to remain on the surface of the road. The actual absorption and infiltration of Storm Water is achieved by designing the incline of the road correctly.
With this kind of closed SW infiltration solution there is no scope for people to throw garbage in open drains clogging them, which then leads to further flooding. Whatever SW reaches the ground water table through our new scheme of addressing SW problem, is clean and contaminant free, as the water passes through several layers of sand, gravel, geo-textile etc before it gets collected in the tanks for gradual disbursal. No more Abishek-like situations and no knee deep water to wade through.
This is known as point of source solution. It has been tried and tested for over four decades all over the world. That is why you find not a drop of water after heavy rains in all cities from Sydney to San Francisco!
Hope this clarifies the relationship between ecological roads and storm water drains.
