Description

Everyone will agree that having an efficient transportation is an important element for any country to maintain and increase the kind of growth rates that we in India have seen for the past several years. We have seen mass transport (Metros, Large highways, etc.) undergo a phenomenal transformation. We are also seeing alternatives to inefficient fossil fuel based vehicles like electric cars, bikes, etc. Concepts like carpooling and vanpooling are becoming more prevalent. Are these steps enough to tackle the increasingly congested and crawling traffic situation and the high pollution generated from transportation sectors? The panel will focus on several of these issues. Some of the specific questions that we will get answered are: When will India's transportation paradigm change towards the adoption of EVs? Is there scope for shared ownership in India like ZipCar in the US? What’s the effectiveness of Urban Mass Transport in India's exploding urban landscape and penetration within our rapidly upward moving socioeconomic demographics? Would most of these initiatives be undertaken by the government or large institutions or do startups and smaller companies have a shot at making a difference? What are the opportunities and challenges for the entrepreneurs as they venture out to create a company to tackle these very issues?

Speakers: Chetan Maini Managing Director, Reva Electric Car Company Gaurav Gupta Commissioner, Urban Land Transport & Convener, BMLTA Ashok Gopinath (TBD), GM India

Moderator: Sachin Maheshwari, Principal, Draper Fisher Jurvetson (DFJ) India
