Petition to the Chief Minister
shekhar_mittal - 31 October, 2009 | Lokayukta | loksatta
To: The Honorable Chief Minister of Karnataka
Sub: Empower Lokayukta
We, the people of Karnataka appreciate your services as Chief Minister of Karnataka. We hope to see your commitment to prevent corruption come true.
As you are aware of the alarming levels of corruption in the state, it is pervasive in all walks of public life. We believe that corruption is an underlying issue which is inhibiting all our efforts driving reforms. Today people of Karnataka are tired and restless about corruption and even the presence of Lokayukta is not able to curb this menace from our society. It has been a persistent hope from consecutive govt.'s to change the situation. We are looking for a corruption free society, where every common man gets his everyday public services without the bribe. And where infrastructure projects are executed with no fraud. Where guilty be punished without fail and delay. We understand that inspite of the will of highest leadership, the inadequacy in law prevent us from eradicating corruption and punish guilty in our society.
We strongly believe there is a greater need for empowering Lokayukta, and much stronger and enforceable law to prevent corruption and punish the guilty.
We urge you to take the following steps to remove the 'toothless tiger' label from Lokayukta and make it effective
1. Establish special anti-corruption courts in each district immediately for pursuing Lokayukta cases
2. Suo Moto powers to Lokayukta to bring MLAs, MPs
3. Strengthen Lokayukta by completing the recruitment for open jobs
4. Removal (amendment) to Section 19 of Prevention of Corruption Act
5. Establish a Whistle Blowers act to maintain the secrecy of Whistle Blowers.
We approach you with great hope and whole heartedly believe that you will follow up with utmost urgency.
Copy to:
