Idenitfying the Target Commuter Destinations/Work Places
kbsyed61 - 19 December, 2009 | Bangalore
For the Bus Day event to be successful, the word should reach the Non-Bus commuters. In that respect identifying the corridors, work place destinations would be the starting place. This would makes things easier to reach out to businesses and work places in those corridors for encouraging non-bus commuters to take the bus on that day.
I am requesting all the Praja members to help me with the list by suggesting the names of the corridors or work place destinations.

What are doing with this?

KB,
I am wondering what are doing by this info - list of high density corridors? I guess your idea is to provide travel suggestions from some high density residential areas to high-density industrial areas? Is that the need for this list?

contact ORRCA?
sanjayv - 31 December, 2009 - 18:49
I would suggest the ORRCA (Outer Ring Road Companies Association) as one group to contact, if they are not involved in this already. They have been slowly pushing public transport in newsletters (since I work in a company that is a member of this). I can help find a contact here. They will push the publicity within these companies with enthusiasm. However, they may already be involved with the BMTC.
The famous ones!
kbsyed61 - 19 December, 2009 - 18:10
The popular names that comes to my mind are: ITPL Whitefield Electronic City Ring Road Vidhan Soudha, MS Buildings Area Hosur Road Peenya, Tumkur Road
Bannergatta Road as well
Srivatsava - 24 December, 2009 - 13:08
KB, Bannergatta Road has loads of IT companies. The jams on this road is enough proof of the low PT usage levels and 'potential' of the bus day concept. The relative proximity of B'gatta Road to the city(compared to EC and Whitefield) also makes it tempting to take private vehicles.
Bommanahalli has more than 25,000 textile workers and Peenya is the largest industial estate in the country. The PT penetration levels is very high amongst these people, partly because of the 'relatively low' wages to the workers and convenience of company buses to the rest. Lets treat them as 'special' for atleast a day and make them proud.
Another couple of names are Hebbal and Mysore road. I guess Hebbal/Manyata is covered as part of ring road. I am not sure if Mysore Road/Global Village is large enough to a focus area.
For Publicity !
kbsyed61 - 30 December, 2009 - 16:35
Srivatsava,
The targeted corridor information is needed for targeted publicity. These are the destination places that generates most of the traffic. What we need is:
- Identify these corridors
- Identify the businesses/companies in these places
- Reach out to them via personal visit, Phone, Email
- Provide the necessary bus information to Private vehicle commuters - Via BMTC Website, customized Bus route info for selected corridors
Anything that would help more people take bus would be welcome by all. This definitely needs lot of volunteers on ground and for online information creation.
I am hoping that we can at least create simple basic information that these volunteers, BMTC, and others can make use of.
