Silence Please!
murali772 - 16 June, 2009 | Traffic | Bangalore | governance | Congestion | environment | Pollution
Come Friday evening, Hudson Circle, one of the more congested traffic spots in the city, will witness a peace march of a different kind, where “silence” will be both its method and message. Civic-conscious citizens, under the leadership of Prakruthi, will gather in and around this traffic island to protest against the noise pollution caused by traffic.
While 40 lakh vehicles ply the city roads, a mind-boggling 2,000 new vehicles are registered everyday, according to the state transport department. Besides the traffic volume, the bane of Bangalore roads are autorickshaws sans silencers, honking in silent zones, and the yen of insensitive motorists to honk without reason or respite.
The demonstration is to stress on “no horn” and to appeal to motorists to drive sensibly, says Prasad. A part of Prakruthi’s social awareness campaigns, the demonstration will be held between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. For details, contact 90084 08161.

Horn honking and out-shouting Indians cannot live without noises
Vasanthkumar Mysoremath - 17 June, 2009 - 07:51
Because they are per se, noise makers of high decibles whether in the Parliament or Legislatures or homes and they have a tendency to out-shout others. However, it is good to remind ourselves that it is necessary to control all sorts of noises around us because noise disturbs our thoughts to remain tranquil.
Ladies/children are especially requested to take part in large numbers and encourage the awareness programme.
