Why is this Project needed?

shekhar_mittal - 25-MAR-2010

For those who do not closely follow water issues and are wondering why a project like this is needed, I came across a very nice concise video at India water portal. It can be accessed here

It covers all the points which make you wonder where we are heading without getting into the details.

1. 50% of water supply gets lost due to inefficiencies.

2. The role of bottled water and tankers in our current water requirements.

etc.

Bangalore Water Index

Neha_Dar - 25-MAR-2010

Despite the popularity of traffic and transportation subjects here, water is a rather more serious issue facing our city. Here is an ambitious but interesting project to to pool together the energy of all water enthusiasts, and first design, and then regularly publish a "water index" for Bangalore.

Bellandur Lake Fencing

pravn1984 - 19-MAR-2010

Today, while passing by bellandur tank bund road, I noticed that the lake was being fenced.

There were two sets of fencing being done. One on the boundary of the lake - on one side of the road, and the other on the opposite side of the road. I did not have a camera( camera phone) to take the pics.( will try to do the same in my next visit or some other praja can fill on the same).

I am presuming this is part of this  project of chain link fencing a host of lakes in city.

I checked the tenders for the same has been  already awarded ( can be checked in this site

eproc.karnataka.gov.in . So, probably this activity has started for other lakes also.

This is atleast a start in improving/cleaning/maintaining this lake.  However, one thing to worry about is there is no plan of green belt for bellandur lake.  There seems to be no space earmarked for the same either.

Rainwater Harvesting Mela on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Cubbon Park

murali772 - 16-MAR-2010

To mark World Water Day this year, a "Rainwater Harvesting Mela" is being organized at Jawahar Bal Bhavan, Cubbon Park on Saturday, March 20, 2010, from 10:00 am to 5 p.m. There will be stalls set up by BWSSB and several rainwater harvesting service providers. You can use this opportunity to clarify the procedures of the new Amendment, and meet the rainwater harvesting service providers, consultants and plumbers. They would be in a position to explain how you could implement rainwater harvesting for your house or building and give you an idea of the cost. We are also expecting some more organisations involved with water management like Central Groundwater Board to have their stalls at the event.

BWSSB is also organising an 'open house' at the nearby Cubbon Park Wastewater treatment plant as part of the event. Citizens can get a tour of the plant to see how the wastewater in the city is made available for reuse, by using advanced treatment technologies.

Schedule:

10:00am - 11:00 am : Inaguration of event by Chairman, BWSSB

Point out a Bangalore Lake to CAG - takes just 1 click

silkboard - 25-FEB-2010

See this (http://praja.in/en/blog/silkboard/2010/02/14/cag-auditing-water-pollution-which-lakeriver-suggest) for background. CAG is conducting a study on the subject of Water Pollution. Let us recommend a lake from Bangalore so that CAG can analyze how well the inflow based and lake bed dumping related pollution is managed in our city. This form should help us send a consistent appeal to CAG.

Summer is already here - & it seems like we are already in May, though we are still in mid-Feb.

With summer, the usual water & power shortage looms large - & the size of the shortage keeps increasing year after year.

Lakes of Bangalore - My contribution

Prashant.Murthy - 16-JAN-2010

Hi,

This is my initiative to understand the current state of all lakes in bangalore. I think this year 2010, i will visit each lake and get the photos of them and post in a blog. This we can use it in our future references.

Somehow I feel that the lakes in bangalore are dwindling and I am not doing anything about it. This is my attempt towards it.
