Hi Folks I am shifting Delhi from Bangalore and so was looking of ways to move my personal stuff from Bangalore to Delhi. I dont have a lot of stuff so it does not make sense to hire a container myself. I had 3 carton boxes and a bike. I was wondering whether it is possible to send all this stuff through train. While I know that sending the bike is possible, is it also possible that one sends the carton boxes by train as well? 1. Has anyone tried it before? 2. Is it efficient and dependable? is it cheaper than road transport? -Shekhar |
Candlelight protest rally in support of Lok Ayukta Santosh Hegde shekhar_mittal - 24-JUN-2010
Posting on behalf of Prof Gowda Dear fellow citizen,
As you know, the Karnataka Lok Ayukta, Justice Santosh Hegde, has resigned in protest against the state government’s efforts to scuttle the Lok Ayukta’s anti-corruption drives. As concerned citizens we cannot just sit back and watch as a crusader against corruption gives up the fight.
Instead, we must urge Justice Hegde to withdraw his resignation. We must show him that the people of Karnataka are together with him in his battles. We must raise our collective voice and push the state government to change its stance and punish the corrupt. We must launch a drive to give the institution of the Lok Ayukta more powers and more teeth.
Let's make a start by coming together for a candle-light protest rally on June 24, 2010 at 7 pm at the Mahatma Gandhi statue. This is open to all people and organizations interested in good governance.
Spread the word. Then come, join hands in the fight against corruption!
Sincerely,
Rajeev Gowda |

Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Bill shekhar_mittal - 9-JUN-2010
With all the interesting Parliament bills that get discussed, scrutinized and thrashed by media and people like us, there are many more which get missed out. Through the PRS site I came across "Pension Fund and Regulatory Development Authority Bill".
Before I try to explain it, here are some fun facts
Essentially, the PFRDA bill aims to address all of the above. This Bill provides a regulatory framework for a new pension system (NPS) which will be available to any individual. All the employees who joined the central government on or after 1 January 2004 already come under this new pension system. |

Dear all, attaching a couple of recent files on UID:
In other civic forums , the UID debate has gone to the level of "stop UID" campiagns. The anti UID lobby (currently in the civic space there seems to be more of them or at least more vocal) has a few broad areas of concern and pehaps rightly so |

Meeting with Gautham Ravichander from WISA-Janaagraha shekhar_mittal - 18-APR-2010
I met Gautham Ravichandar who is co-ordinating the new WISA project at Janagrahaaa. I wanted to find out the extent to which they are tracking water in their index and see if there is any way we can collaborate. So, WISA has hired around 50 people who are going to each and every ward to collect the required info. Once TOI publishes the data they plan to make it open for everyone. I am not sure whether they will make it online but people can go to their office and access that data. Their focus is more on creating some sort of a quality of life index. The categories they are going to cover are 1. BWSSB Supply - 1 thing to notice is that the plan to track the BIS Benchmarks measuring with the help of a NABH accredited lab. 2. Parks and Playgrounds 3. Sewage and Sanitation - Public Toilets 4. Mobility 5. Environment - Air Pollution, Green Cover |
