murali772 - 30-DEC-2008

As important as fixing the security issues, are the fixing of certain key issues pertaining to governance, the deficiencies around which are the actual cause of the precarious security environment prevailing. A few of the more important ones are listed below.

Scrutinizing environmental clerances

silkboard - 23-DEC-2008

Last month, I spotted two notices from Prestige Group announcing environmental clearances for their projects (Dynasty, Exora). What caught my attention was that document numbers and a website were mentioned, I assume for us, the public, to see the documents for ourselves.

Karnataka's Accountant General - dead or alive?

silkboard - 15-DEC-2008

Ever been to the CAG website? Its of interest because it provides useful data on how select government departments are doing with tax payer's money. Look at this report on NAL (National Aero Lab) for example, and see how CAG details NAL's failure to meet its targets. Or see this report on allotment of housing by DDA. Don't we wish Karnataka too had a CAG like body to audit the likes of BDA and BBMP?

Brand IIT the only way, or Karnataka Inst. of Tech possible?

silkboard - 1-DEC-2008

This is a reaction to "Demand for IIT rejected again". It seems the main reason KA's request was turned down was because the state already has IISc and IIM here. Is getting a central govt sponsored, IIT branded institute the best way of setting up a premier education institution in the state?

SH17 - road of death, need highway patrol

silkboard - 19-SEP-2008

Bangalore Mysore HighwayA few deaths on Bellary Road, and it got so much attention. By the way, police's efforts to enforce are working, I hear that a good number of cabs keep themselves to 80 kmph, and drivers either buckle up or think about putting on seat belts on Nh7. So perhaps, the fear of punishment does work. Now, how about the Bangalore Mysore highway?

First of all, its foolish to build high speed roads that are not access controlled in whatever way, limited or full fledged. That road is literally hell right now, with death awaiting at about 50-60 points along the 100 odd km length.

is Karnataka going nuts?..homegrown version of the Taliban

This news report is utterly shocking. What is even more surprising is there is not one word of protest in the country. Read:
