Praja site for Mangalore

admin123 - 11-JUN-2008

There have been requests to start a Mangalore-Praja site. thaks to recent technical changes, we are now in a position to start one. But we need to assess if we have 10-15 votes of interest from folks who would be willing to make constructive posts on civic issues, and will be interested in taking matters beyond discussion later when memberships numbers reach good levels.

Note - Site structure changes

We are planning a re-structure of the website so that we can expand the site to reach the citizens of various other cities and citizen groups in these cities. Below is the summary of changes in brief.

[Announcement] Working Groups - our first one

admin123 - 26-MAY-2008

Okay then. Time now to test ourselves, and the theory, that with a bigger pool (1000+ now) of members, we will have correspondingly bigger numbers for on-ground activities. Let us start our first "working group" (or WG) on Praja. Taking the window of opportunity offered by Mr Tripathy, and well aware that the subject is most popular thus far, the first WG will be on Public Transport. Before forming this group, let us figure out this generic concept of WG:

We've made it to the New York Times!

Congratulations folks, we have made it to the New York Times, which gives an indirect reference to prominent "civic lobbies"!

Frequently asked questions about Praja.in

What exactly is Praja.in, alternate media or an NGO?

A> We are neither trying to be alternate media, nor yet another NGO. There is some wide and serious space between journalism and activism that we are trying to fill and bridge.

- A new 'theme' for better look and feel and navigation

Congrats Naveen and thanks Deccan Herald

admin123 - 30-MAR-2008

Thanks Deccan Herald for taking note of Praja. They are carrying Capt Naveen's suggestion about Koramangala 100 ft road today in full, and have mentioned Praja as a site launched by "a few IT professionals with concerns about IT capital of the country". Congrats Capt Naveen, you got almost half of page 3 on Sunday DH!

Let us meet - Sunday Dec 16, 9 AM, Lalbagh West Gate

admin123 - 11-DEC-2007

We have been talking about it - what more can we realistically do besides sharing our ideas and frustrations via discussions. We also want to decide on the future course for the website itself, for Praja aims to leverage the site as the platform. So how about we meet and talk all this?

Date: 16 Dec, Sunday morning, 9 AM Venue: Lalbagh, West Gate

Praja.in - whats ahead?

admin123 - 17-OCT-2007

A "whats next" type discussion has been pending for sometime now, how about we start one. To kick it off, here are the two broad thoughts what got us started in the first place:

=> Need for a platform to enable citizens to be activists in their areas of concern and interest. Platform as in enable and equip, with information, pointers, complaint numbers, contacts of relevant people, success/failure stories and alike.
=> Try to utilize the power of Internet to build a big and strong community. We realize that if easy and online ways of activism are made available, there will be better participation because the reality of present times is - most of us are not willing to give these things serious personal effort and time.
