Who is actually responsible for upkeep of Bangalore's lakes? Answer may go like this - some lakes LDA, rest of them BWSSB. Refer late last year's news articles - lakes were transferred from LDA to BWSSB. But this was done only for some (17 or 18) lakes. To remind us all that they are around, LDA has floated work for rejuvenating 3 lakes. |

Over the last 4 years I have been reading about articles in the news papers about the diminishing lakes in Blore. Once the city was proud to have hundreds of lakes, now has only 60+ lakes. I don't have exact statistics but what I know is Lake development Autority was once formed and they are doing the maintaining or for privatization of lakes. |

After govt handed upkeep of some lakes from LDA to BWSSB, and in the midst of courts asking LDA to stop privatizing lakes (See Hindu news report, a victory for ESG and Leo, great show!), last week saw BBMP and BDA floating tenders for works on some lakes |

Seen this interesting article in DH on state of KLDA? Summary: Budget allocation - Rs 3.15 Cr for 40,000 lakes in the state. Karnataka Lake Development Authority has 4 officers and 6 contract employees, 1 vehicle and 1 telephone for the whole state!. |
