Ads Volvo buses illegal; but, BMTC carries on unmindful murali772 - 31-JUL-2010
Regional Transport Authority officials never had it so tough. While they have managed to stop all private and government vehicles from displaying advertisements, they've found the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) a tough nut to crack. They're armed with an Act of law, a high court ruling and a Road Safety Authority (RSA) decision which prohibits display of ads on vehicles as these could distract other drivers. However BMTC buses, especially the Volvos, continue to display huge ads. What's worse, government ads with large photographs of chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and transport minister R Ashoka are on almost all buses plying towards IT corridor areas like Whitefield and Electronic City. Interestingly, BMTC managing director Syed Zameer Pasha says he's unaware of this blatant flouting of rules.

Last week I waited at Kanakapura road for a bus to Banashankari. There came a AS1(Atal sarige 1) and I boarded it. This bus had some advantages: 1. The fare charged between Jaraganahalli and Banashankari, a distance of about 2 1/2 kms was just Rs.2/- in a situation where all other buses charge Rs.4/- |

BMTC today has launced a new Volvo route from JP Nagar - Brigade Millienum to ITPL. The service No. is 500BM. The route is Puttenhalli , Oxford Dental colleage, 9th Cross, 9Block Jayanagar, BTM Layout, Silkboard, Intel, Marathalli, Brookefield, Sai Baba Hospital. I have notices 2 services this morning. |

BMTC - 500k - 600k causing passenger inconvenience muthusubs - 21-JUL-2010
500k and 600k are the only 2 volvo routes between Silk Board to Vijaynagar and there is a lot of passenger density in this route. As per the BMTC route info, there is a bus every 5 mins in the peak hour between 530 and 730. |

Lot of posts and comments on bad practices around tickets, and possibility of organized corruption inside BMTC around Bus operations. Some say that pilferage levels are too high, though there is no real data to either show the level of pilferage, or compare with estimates from transportation companies. |

Extending the discussion on Pilferage by BMTC Conductors/Official and taking SBs suggestion for coming up with the list of questions for possible direct answers from BMTC or filing RTI with BMTC. In any case, as a civil city and residents of Bengaluru, it is our duty to hold the powers responsible for all that good and bad happens in public institutions and corporations. BMTC needs to be held responsible and answers should be demanded for all the relevant issues and questions. Let us collate all the questions here.
