BBMP's negligence - example from Saraswathi Nagar admin123 - 28-DEC-2008
Praja is not an official complaints authority, but from time to time, we get complaint emails meant for BBMP, BMTC or Traffic Police. It indicates that many citizens don't know where exactly to complain. Regardless, here is a recent email that highlights how even small public work carried out in the city is often not done to perfection. Lack of clean up post-work is so very common. |
Rallies continue in the city - BSP's turn now silkboard - 23-DEC-2008
This morning's 30-35 minute commute took over two hours. I come to office, and find it empty. All thanks to BSP's rally at Palace Grounds today. This is the state on eastern suburbs, I wonder what would be the situation in central areas of the city. |
Vasanth - 21-DEC-2008
Nomatter however the road is wide, there is always traffic jams. Still BBMP seems to have not analyzed the problem and expanding the roads by cutting trees and reducing pavements has become its endless project. Today morning I saw trees on the Maharani's College Road while getting down the Anand Rao circle which were 'alive' from 100s of years being cut to widen further. Already the road is 1 way and it is a 4 lane road. Why to loose our greenery unnecessarily. Also the pavements were narrowed still further. We all know, how matter the road is wide, still traffic will not reduce. Length of the jam decreases and width increases. We have seen the examples of Bangkok, as well as we have seen the roads of California. Its all so wide still there are lots of delays in traffic. Why to loose our precious trees which are seniors in terms of age for a foolish act of road widening which we all know is not going to give us any solution. Loosing the tree for a Metro Rail / Mono Rail is OK since it is minimal as well as it is definitely give us a solution. Still, alternative routes should be taken wherever possible to avoid tree cutting such as the case in Nanda Road. |

Karnataka's Accountant General - dead or alive? silkboard - 15-DEC-2008
Ever been to the CAG website? Its of interest because it provides useful data on how select government departments are doing with tax payer's money. Look at this report on NAL (National Aero Lab) for example, and see how CAG details NAL's failure to meet its targets. Or see this report on allotment of housing by DDA. Don't we wish Karnataka too had a CAG like body to audit the likes of BDA and BBMP? |
Private Banks - How safe are our money Vasanth - 12-DEC-2008
I was surprised to see one of my bank account at HDFC bank which was 4,500 two years back has become only Rs.175 without any transactions. I use Citibank for regular transaction (salary account). Same is with ICICI, which was my salary account bank 2 years back and which has become 100 rupees or so from 14,000. |

Recent terrorist activities have highlighted our vulnerability, drawing a lot of well deserved attention. But we should not forget that at the same time, other neglected issues continue to cause havoc in everyday life. |
Mysore Bangalore Rail Double line Project E.R. Ramachandran - 8-DEC-2008
Whatever happened to the gallopping project of Double line between Bangalore and Mysore? The latest roadblock is the monument concerning Tippusultan Gun carriage which is rumoured to come very close to the tracks and hence the doubling rail track goes back to the back burner or freezer if you ask me! |
bijeshkrishnadas - 3-DEC-2008
On one hand, we have the B-TRAC initiative that the Bengaluru Traffic police claim will improve traffic conditions, lights and signage. On the other, we have traffic signals that don't work or work erratically and have gone unfixed for months. |
silkboard - 27-NOV-2008
Who is not stunned? Writing more about the incident from terrorism angle will lead to needless rambling. I have only one question to ask, from the angle of law and order. Isn't it time for Police Reforms, and overhaul of our internal security systems? |
