Rainwater Harvesting - Preaching without practicing ?

Vasanthkumar Mysoremath - 11-JUN-2009

Some observations/solutions for making RWH compulsory.

Men in authority are more interested in preaching than practicing.

There are huge government buildings and lands/waste lands in urban/rural areas - still there is no semblance of utilizing such golden areas for creating rain water harvesting facilities by those in occupation of such lands.

Green cess

murali772 - 11-JUN-2009

You’ve paid infrastructure and education cesses. Now, get ready to shell out a green cess of 5 paise per kWh electricity. If the Karnataka government has its way, for the first time, the state will levy this on industrial and commercial establishments to raise funds for renewable energy.

silkboard - 21-APR-2008

I didn't know about this new e-procurement portal launched last year by the state government. Have a look here (site isn't setup right, watch the warnings). What should interest us most is "transparency". There is a section intended for "citizens", cool! But the citizen's page doesn't have much right now. A list of tenders is available, which shows up only two items. There is a news and information link too, but that leads to a third party commercial website.

Importance of Bellandur Lake in the ecosystem of Bangalore

psaram42 - 7-JUN-2009

Bellandur Lake is the biggest water body in Bangalore. In our metro we are depending heavily water bodies as wet lands in Nitrogen cycling. Bellandur Lake thus plays an important role in this cycle as a natural wetland. The three main streams of sewage are
