Local shuttle ideas for next Bus Day (March 4) silkboard - 22-FEB-2010
Now that BMTC and Transport Minister have liked the concept, let us make suggestions to make the most, and more immportant. meaningful use of the idea-pad cum marketing event called Bus Day. For starters, I think we should try do not more than 2 corridors on each Bus day. 5 is a lot to cover and do, there is no point being wide but thin in coverage. |

Got this email from BMTC late last week. Most significant part in there is

Tata magic or winger for last mile connectivity vinod_shankar - 16-FEB-2010
I'm proposing a few options for last mile connectivity. If BMTC cannot operate shuttle service, then it makes sense for BMTC to buy the vehicles and ask private players to operate on designated route and frequency. This is model followed by delhi metro to run its feeder buses. BMTC needs to innovate in this space try a few models to see if it makes sense. Since BMT |
srinidhi - 16-FEB-2010
JnNurm funds are being used and announcements being made by BMTC about launching new busses on Blr roads..everything is being done in a hurry.. They are saying about 200 of Marcopolo's will be ordered..are they worth it? They cost 20-30% less than the Volvo's but have been found lacking in refinements which are basic at that cost! 1. The engines are way too noisy...even on normal roads..the bus struggles to start and passengers in the bus can hear the loud engine..even people in the traffic arround the bus can hear the loud noise! 2. The AC is not efficient..there are reports of passengers sweating inside the bus! 3.The automatic doors have issues and transmission too With all the issues, is it really worth going for these busses.. On the other hand KSRTC low floor bus design has been found commendable by the centre http://www.deccanherald.com/content/52727/centre-commends-ksrtc-bus-design.html Should we just go for such busses than the Marcopolos? |
BMTC Daily Pass - M/F Significance. Bheema.Upadhyaya - 16-FEB-2010
I was just wondering what is the significance of marking M/F (Male/Female) in daily passes. Does this help BMTC/public in any way or just an overhead to conductor to mark M/F? Today I have seen an incident conductor did not mark it properly and there was a big fight. Another day I have seen a conductor asked a lady to get down from the bus , as her pass was not marked clearly as female pass. |
Next Bus Day - new things to do and try silkboard - 16-FEB-2010
Its time for next Bus Day, and we assume BMTC is game to convert this to a monthly tradition. With time, the Bus Day should become: |
Last mile connectivity – panacea for most PT problems ashfaq syed - 15-FEB-2010
The results of the recently concluded praja survey to find why people don’t use PT, shows that the last mile connectivity is the issue for only 10% of the people. I was surprised and so did so many praja members commenting on the survey results. Well, once I analyzed the comments, I realized that it is not 10% but, it is actually more than 60% and people di |
Preaching to the choir – converting people to use public transport ashfaq syed - 10-FEB-2010
Back in 1990’s driving was a pleasure on American Roads. Many evenings were spent going on a long drive enjoying the pleasure of driving the car on smooth and light traffic highways. People used to drive 50 miles every night just to put a child to sleep. Gas was cheap, traf |

BMTC Issues - From RCA perspective Bheema.Upadhyaya - 8-FEB-2010
Getting a cue from this suvery I thought why not analyse (to some extent) from Root Cause Analysis perspective of TQM (Total Quality Management)? According to RCA we should find further causes of further levels. So I am trying to just draft out whatever I think. Some of these may be just my imaginations or may feel too theoritical, as we can not understand issues from driver and conductors perspective. I am of hope that this may create some leads towards solutions not any solution as such. I am imagining survey Question as effects. However I am not analyzing any one from survey questions. But I am taking another simple effect ie, Buses not stopping in bus stops. This creates difficulties for a passenger, specially big problems for kids, pregnant ladies, senior citizens. I am trying to categorize each cause for better quantification. Effect - Buses not stopping in easy reach of waiting passengers in bus shelter Causes - |
