Long pending Civic Elections

psaram42 - 18-OCT-2009

The way the BWSSB, in the absence of BBMP elected mayor and his team, is going ahead with its job of planning and maintaining the city infrastructure is not acceptable. Reference is made to the earlier two threads on the subject on SWD.

Is Bangalore a good place to bring up a child?

s_yajaman - 11-OCT-2009

IDS's post on the Olympics set me thinking a bit.  Though the title of my post refers to Bangalore, we can substitute "any Indian mega city" in its place.

Bangalore today is very different from the Bangalore in which I grew up (70s and 80s).  I won't get into that too much.

City Planner - Metroquest

Vasanth - 19-MAY-2009

I found an interesting tool on the cityfix.com on urban planning. You can plan the real city for 40 years.

Our city agencies like BBMP, BMLTA etc can use tools like this and we praja can explore the possibilities. I could not get a chance to get into the tool in detail. Just wanted Praja members to know about this.

LDA is back - Madivala lake and others

silkboard - 11-MAY-2009

Who is actually responsible for upkeep of Bangalore's lakes? Answer may go like this - some lakes LDA, rest of them BWSSB. Refer late last year's news articles - lakes were transferred from LDA to BWSSB. But this was done only for some (17 or 18) lakes. To remind us all that they are around, LDA has floated work for rejuvenating 3 lakes.

Saving Madivala Lake

namma_nadu - 2-MAY-2009

Madivala lake is dying. I think there is a definite plan in trying to kill the lake. First the hyacinth - i just dont understand why the hyacinth is allowed to mushroom and cover half the lake at any point of time - is there a mafia?
