Byelaws, parking, traffic congestion etc etc silkboard - 13-JUN-2008
How hard is it to make a post like this? Examples abound. Here is another one from Marathahalli. A new tall building popped up earlier this year, and a Shanthi Sagar showed up, I am guessing as a tenant. Of course, the parking has been planned for. Its in the basement. Spot the basement there, just to the left of stairs?

Building plan submission and clearance - all online!? silkboard - 9-MAY-2008
Spotted a news clip in Pune newspaper (ToI) this week that said - PCMC (Pimpri Chinchwad, a Pune suburb) is planning to make sanctioning of building plans an online process. So: "At present, builders are required to submit the papers and the necessary documents pertaining to building plans to the PCMC. The civic body has now developed a software to scrutinise the papers once they are submitted on-line ... The software will help in checking all aspects of the building plans and confirm whether they comply with the building bylaws, TDR and FSI restrictions, etc." |

tsubba - 14-MAR-2008
A technical committee comprising of town planners, structural
engineers, architects, representatives from the Fire Force, Airports
Authority of India, Bangalore Metropolitan Region Development Authority
(BMRDA), BDA and other service providers of the city is working on the
revision of building bylaws for Bangalore based on the recommendations
of the masterplan 2015. It will take atleast 3 months for the committee
to work on the changes, then a draft will be sent to govt for approval.
After this there is a month's time for citizens to file any objections.

Bangalore and Ribbon Development silkboard - 7-OCT-2007
Bangalore's peripheral areas all messed up? Blame it on Ribbon Development. Let me introduce you to a term very relevant to the congested sprawl that our city is witnessing. Simply put, Ribbon Development means building shops and houses along the roads radiating from a town. If you were to look at Bangalore from the skies and track recently laid or widened major arterial roads leading out of the city, you would notice that almost all big ticket construction/development happens solely along (rather right on top of) these roads. Do me another favor. When on the periphery of Bangalore, try take a left or right out of any big radial road. This is most likely what you would see [pictures below]. Pathetic roads, poor quality of construction and even narrower streets if you were to venture into a "layout". |
Shops and parking - This is how it begins silkboard - 28-AUG-2007Recently, while passing through Kundalahalli gate, I noticed that some shops had suddenly sprung up on an empty plot. Going by what I understand of BBMP bylaws, the construction does seem illegal. [flickr-photo:id=1256266002,size=m][flickr-photo:id=1255403723,size=m] These shops are literally standing on the footpath, and bang on a major intersection. Of course, there is no place to park bikes or cars here. So once they start doing business, customers' vehicles could block some serious traffic (intersection of Varthur Road and Brookfield main road leading to ITPL). |
