"Only God can save Bangalore's pedestrians"

s_yajaman - 23-FEB-2009

So said Dr. Subramanya sometime in Dec 2007.  It seems that pavements are optional in Bangalore.  BBMP can spend 100s of crores on tarring roads, acquiring land for useless road widening (check out the stretch just after Domlur leading to Command Hospital), building flyovers with signals on top of them, etc etc, but has little money to spend on building and maintaining pavements.

Prajegale,

Here is a copy of the email I sent out today to commissioner (commissioner at bbmponline dot org) and joint commissioner (works) (jcworks ar bbmponline dot org), BBMP. I know it is probably not going to of a much impact, but thought should just try. Something is better than nothing, right?

BBMP - More magic boxes coming!?

silkboard - 22-FEB-2009

View from the Palace cross roadWhat exactly would be "precast RCC box segments of size 6m x 4.5m x 1m". Magic box, isn't it? Saw some tenders from BBMP calling for work to prepare "vehicular underpass" using these precast RCC segments at Mysore Road Deviation Junction. See the BBMP Ad for yourself:

Bangalore - Governance Reforms

silkboard - 6-FEB-2009

Growth pains of Bangalore lead to demands for urban governance reforms to bring more local participation and autonomy to the urban area referred to as the Bangalore Metropolitan Region. Expanding BMP to Bruhat BMP via bringing adjoining CMCs within the fold of this Bangalore MEtropolitan Region was the first step.

Besides this ABIDe’s focus of citizen centric governance has been further enhanced by the proposal of a comprehensive development and co-ordinated execution of developmental projects. "Signal free" Hosur Road: opportunity or nightmare?

Transmogrifier - 5-FEB-2009

Just caught this in the news; BBMP's plans to convert Hosur road to a Bellary road like "signal free" stretch (read more here).

This is another series of traffic engineering nightmares just waiting to happen (narrow underpasses, plain bad design, non-existent pedestrian infrastructure). Ironically, they actually have cited Bellary Road as the model to emulate. There must be some way to get in on this and at least attempt to get things done more holistically. RTI the design plans? Another meet with BBMP? Two things that I could immediately think of:

BBMP's RTI system - when?

silkboard - 1-FEB-2009

About two years ago, when BBMP website was revamped, they had promised an online complaints/grievance management system. The "coming soon" notice stayed on the website for about six months, and then was replaced with simple email ids for complaints and suggestions. Similarly, there has been a pending promise for an online RTI system.
