Sankey Road to lose trees

mcadambi - 21-JAN-2009

The Arterial Sankey Road, from Cauvery Theatre Junction to Yeshwantpur Circle Junction is going to be widened and going to lose all the green cover it has. It is going to become a major disaster given that Sankey Tank and surrounding regions cannot withstand such a large amount of vehicular pollution.

All government utility or infrastructure providers have systems to listen from citizens:

RTI Help - Garbage not being collected for disposal

roshanrk - 6-JAN-2009

The garbage collection has stopped happening at my apartment a few weeks ago. The people who used to come to do it were demanding 50 Rs per house per month!

Praja is not an official complaints authority, but from time to time, we get complaint emails meant for BBMP, BMTC or Traffic Police. It indicates that many citizens don't know where exactly to complain. Regardless, here is a recent email that highlights how even small public work carried out in the city is often not done to perfection. Lack of clean up post-work is so very common.

Street Cleanliness

akhilaravi - 23-DEC-2008

IMG_0002I stay in one of the oldest locality in Bangalore i.e Banashankari I stage, very near to Hanumanthnagar. Recently corporation introduced the system of collecting the Household garbage thru the street cleaning persons. Now they have the push-trolley with plastic bin's which they suppose to come near each house and collect the household garbage. These garbage need to be dumped to another van which collects the garbage from the whole area and take to designated place.

How Wide is Wide?

Vasanth - 21-DEC-2008

Nomatter however the road is wide, there is always traffic jams. Still BBMP seems to have not analyzed the problem and expanding the roads by cutting trees and reducing pavements has become its endless project. Today morning I saw trees on the Maharani's College Road while getting down the Anand Rao circle which were 'alive' from 100s of years being cut to widen further. Already the road is 1 way and it is a 4 lane road. Why to loose our greenery unnecessarily. Also the pavements were narrowed still further. We all know, how matter the road is wide, still traffic will not reduce. Length of the jam decreases and width increases. We have seen the examples of Bangkok, as well as we have seen the roads of California. Its all so wide still there are lots of delays in traffic. Why to loose our precious trees which are seniors in terms of age for a foolish act of road widening which we all know is not going to give us any solution. Loosing the tree for a Metro Rail / Mono Rail is OK since it is minimal as well as it is definitely give us a solution. Still, alternative routes should be taken wherever possible to avoid tree cutting such as the case in Nanda Road.

Why are our cities suffering?

mcadambi - 12-DEC-2008

My take on why local level governance in cities like Bangalore and Mumbai are suffering while thriving in cities like New Delhi and to a lesser extent, Chennai.

Any good city needs local governance. This means having a strong mayor council in place and using revenues generated by the city to a substantial extent for the city's needs.

We want infrastructure but no taxes!

mcadambi - 22-NOV-2008

We the proud citizens of Namma Bengaluru, arguably having a higher Household Income on an average compared to the rest of India cry a lot for infrastructure.

Yet, we do not want to pay property taxes and to add insult to the injury want to pay abysmally low taxes. If we do not pay adequate property taxes, we cannot even have good infrastructure.

Footpaths upgraded but width reduced

Photoyogi - 18-NOV-2008

I live in Kumarapark (BBMP Ward No 77) and i was initially pleased to see the footpaths getting a face lift. Yes Serpentine road is having spanking new machine finished granite slabs to cover the drain and make for the footpath.
