A most compelling story

murali772 - 14-NOV-2008

I was born and raised in Bangalore in a traditional old bungalow in the heart of the city in National College Circle in Basavangudi. It was gifted to me by my late aunt with much love over 20 years ago. To my great sorrow, this property will soon be destroyed by the disastrous planning of the 'Namma Metro'.

Tour of Nilgiris

The Tour of Nilgiris is a 7 day, 910 km bicycle ride across the famed Nilgiri mountain range in South India. The Tour of Nilgiris takes off from Bangalore on 25 December 2008 and ends on 1 January 2009.

It is a tour and not a race. The Tour of Nilgiris is the outcome of the desire of a very small group of cycling enthusiasts in Bangalore to create a challenging, interesting and educative ride for them.

Competition without regulation, like this

BMTC and privatization

I see this every other day on my commute, and to many who back competition and liberalization in public transport as a possible solution, this picture represents the fear keeping them from being vocal supporters of the idea. On one side, you have a 3-4 year old nice big bus. Pushing it out of the stand though is a 15 year old vehicle which would be worth a lot less than the bribes it'd take to get operating licenses from RTO.

Anybody still believes BMTC can deliver?

murali772 - 12-NOV-2008

The presence of buses at the flagging-off ceremony seems to have been symbolic, as was the schedule given by the depot and the confirmation by officials that the buses were in operation. And as of this morning, more than a week later, the opinionforming, feedback-providing public is yet to make its acquaintance with the mysterious Marco Polo.

Healthcare-less

murali772 - 11-NOV-2008

The sole 50-bed burns ward in the state at Victoria Hospital is in a pathetic state. Broken window panes, improper ventilation, fading walls, broken bathroom doors and shortage of sufficient cubicles for the privacy of the patients, are the other ills dogging the ward. The hospital authorities blame the PWD for the sorry state of affairs.

One more example!

Today's DH carried this article. I have seen quite a few of these haphazardly written infrastructure related articles. I cannot understand why they don't bother with little bit more research...

Lakes - BBMP/BDA spending

silkboard - 9-NOV-2008

After govt handed upkeep of some lakes from LDA to BWSSB, and in the midst of courts asking LDA to stop privatizing lakes (See Hindu news report, a victory for ESG and Leo, great show!), last week saw BBMP and BDA floating tenders for works on some lakes
