BATF model - love it, or hate it?

silkboard - 30-AUG-2008

In the midst of reams of paper devoted to potholes and sticky roads (come rains, and newsmedia remembers road quality issues) I caught two tiny paragraphs devoted to things that may deserve Prajagale's attention. Our state government has created a new BATF (remember it?) like body. The "Agenda for Bengaluru Infrastructure Development" team is headed by an Rajya Sabha MP Mr Rajiv Chandrashekhar (Convener), and other members include:

Public Transport - Bus service algorithm / checklist

asj - 30-AUG-2008

My views on BRT have been known for a while on Praja.

I am not anti or pro any model. I believe a place has a thing and a thing has a place. First we must be able to justify BRTS on basis of need, then it should be implementable on given corridor (just being able to implement without demonstrated need is no good).

Here is an algorithm which I would use -

2008.08.20 - 16 - Mon Dernier Trajet Vers L'aeroport De Bangalore Spotted a video on Flickr uploaded by some visitor probably on his way to the airport. I don’t recognize the road in the video (not because I have been out of Bangalore for some time now), because all the roads and more importantly the road conditions are strikingly similar nowadays.

Quick observations:

Instead of BMTC, if TVS/ TATAs were providing public bus transport services, would you switch to using them?

Praja in my town

admin123 - 29-AUG-2008

Praja is a platform that spans several cities and towns. If you do not find your city among the ones where praja has a presence, this page is for you!

If there is not a page for your city already, it is as easy as sending a message to the administrators of Praja requesting one. It does not take much time for us to create a sub-site for your city/town.

An inspiring story from HD Kote shows why the geeks will rule the world. The Hindu

A 14-km stretch connecting Bidarahalli with N. Begur in H.D. Kote wore out within a few months after it had been re-laid. The residents, led by a non-governmental organisation, filed an application under the Right to Information Act and found out that the money spent was not proportionate to the work done. They filed a complaint with the Lokayukta and we ordered the road to be re-built, Mr. Hegde said.

You can mark your apartment, your office, your school, the shops in your neighbourhood or elsewhere, landmarks, the roads that you know. You can state whether a road is a one-way, how many traffic lights there are on the road. Indeed, you can mark anything. For more, click on:

Praja Q&A with Mr Brunner - postponed

admin123 - 28-AUG-2008

BIAL had called in today to say that as part of their "100 days" campaign, they want to organize a Q&A session with Praja. We are looking at a 30-45 minute long 1-on-1 meeting with Mr Albert Brunner, the BIAL CEO. They will take 2 to 5 Praja.in members. The meeting should happen sometime in September (orig date was 30th Aug, now postponed). Interested?
