Government Education in Bangalore

gowriv - 25-JUN-2008

At times it seems that Bangalore citizens have forgotten that their government schools exist.

More than half of the schools in Bangalore are private unaided schools, while in the entire state of Karnataka, 81% of schools are government schools. Government schools are seen as a school of last resort, and face high dropout. Children who do survive government schooling often end up without basic skills -- reading, writing, and arithmetic. Still, there are more than 200,000 children attending government schools in our city.

How should the govt finance infrastructure building in Bangalore?

* A blanket cess (build a pool for any project) * Cess with a purpose (first tell me the project) * Keep off my pockets (where are my tax rupees)

Hard work at BIAL results in significant improvement

Devesh - 23-JUN-2008

On Friday, 20-June-2008, I took a flight out of BIAL airport. As my pictorial essay shows, the hard work, by the stake holders at BIAL, is showing results, in the form of significant improvements.

Fast rail track MG Road to BIAL - confused

vmenon - 22-JUN-2008

I am honestly a little confused on this infrastructure project that has been "reannaounced" by the government.

From what I have read on this( news releases), what I gather is that:

  • There is a dedicated fast track railway being proposed from MG road to BIAL exclucively servcing airport needs .
  • That this project, PPP or not, is to the tune of 3000crores
  • That the ticket will be in the region of Rs200 per pop.

A Dangerous Trend

Since taking charge, CM Shri Yeddyurappa has spoken about his plans and ideas on a wide range of issues. But one thing he has been silent about is the issue of election to Bangalore's ULBs.

Housing for the poor

ssheragu - 22-JUN-2008

the scheme of this new government for providing free housing to the poor / less fortunate is a welcome step.

however I have my suggestions / comments for the same

(1) the fact that India will be a developed country by 2015 / 2020 should be borne in mind when providing housing / facilities free of cost or otherwise to poor, downtrodden or any one.

Drunk driver worried about his future!

s_yajaman - 22-JUN-2008

3 innocent people lost their lives because of one drunken idiot on the East Coast Road in Madras. See the idiot's reaction. After robbing 3 people of their future his reaction was that he was "anxious about his future".

Very Good News!

Manya Prajare, (Respected Citizens)

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that Shri Suresh Kumar, Rajajinagar MLA has become the Minister for Urban Development (MuDA). MuDA is a key post which controls BDA, BMRDA, BIAPPA and nearly all TMCs, CMCs and hence holds the key "real estate" post.
