The ongoing tussle between the State Government and Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise (NICE), promoters of the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project, has taken a new turn with the Government floating global tenders to take over the controversial project under the ‘Swiss challenge’. |
Hubli-Bangalore-Mysore, Full Speed Ahead!! tsubba - 17-SEP-2007
It is the season of big plans, UP has announced a staggering 1000kms of 8 lanes expressway running the entire length of the state from east to west. Not to be outdone, inspired by a CII proposal for a Mumbai-Bangalore-Chennai high speed freight corridor, the KA state government has tossed in the idea for a high speed passenger corridor in KA, that'll do Bangalore-Hubli in 2 hours, Bangalore-Mysore in 40 minutes. This, apparently, is the "Just In Time" concept to de-congest Bangalore. |

silkboard - 13-AUG-2007
Going by his media talk, Mr Ashok Kheny is sure sounding aggressive and even more determined about his pet project. Here is some interesting stuff I picked out from his recent statements and interviews. First the TOI interview (Sunday, Aug 12). "... some IAS officers then came to me and advised me to change the alignment as their properties were getting affected..." "He (Deve Gowda) told me to let go off 245 acres and in return, promised me 5000 acres elsewhere. I learnt through officials that he had made some commitments during the elections that the land will be de-notified" |
silkboard - 5-AUG-2007
Very short post this one. ToI (Saturday, Aug 4) had carried an interview of the CM-in-waiting Mr Yediyurappa, and I found this answer very interesting: TOI: Were you consulted on the change in government’s policy on BMIC? |
Govt considering booting NICE for BMIC shas3n - 29-JUL-2007
In a not-so-unexpected move, the Govt announced that it plans to replace NICE as the contractor for BMIC with a new consortium called GIC. (Source DH, VK) "GIC has put forth a proposal indicating that it would accept the terms and conditions of the framework agreement of April 3, 1997 signed between Karnataka and NICE and would pay the cost of existing infrastructure as evaluated by an independent agency while taking over the project on as-is-where-is-basis." |
A new secretary to 'oversee' BMIC project silkboard - 27-JUL-2007
Came to know today that state government has created a post to keep tabs on BMIC. Neither the tone of the news piece nor the situation suggests the move is to speed track any decisions on the project. Perhaps it is more to watch over babus like Mr Sridhara who was pulled up recently for transferring KIADB land to NICE. |
