Trying to make bus interchange easier - work at Marathahalli

silkboard - 17-AUG-2009

Somewhat in line with these past posts (hardships of changing bus, underpass design), I notice attempts to improve pedestrian facilities around airport road/ORR interchange at Marathahalli.

Big-10 & Hop-On /Off

Naveen - 29-MAR-2009

I used the bus yesterday to go towards Forum Mall (Hosur rd) from Old Airport rd. Going was a breeze - used volvo 335E till Vellara jn & then changed over to Big-10 headed towards Silkboard side.

Ravi_D - 23-FEB-2009

Here is a copy of the email I sent out today to commissioner (commissioner at bbmponline dot org) and joint commissioner (works) (jcworks ar bbmponline dot org), BBMP. I know it is probably not going to of a much impact, but thought should just try. Something is better than nothing, right?

A solution for eastbound OMR/ORR lanes

Transmogrifier - 20-JAN-2009

OMR_ReworkThe mess at Bennigannahalli is a 2 km microcosm of what haphazard (if any) planning can result in- apathy (and sometimes antipathy) to public transportation, lane indiscipline, poor forethought (narrow RUB; non-existent pedestrian infrastructure) and bad design (Cable-stayed bridge) to name a few. However IMO some solutions are not that far away.

Commendable effort by Traffic Police

Ravi_D - 23-DEC-2008

Going west on Mysore road past ring road junction, you climb up a fairly steep gradient to get to Nayandahalli bus stop. As usual, where three lanes merge into two you see a bus stop. With busses stopped next to each other, it is almost a perennial traffic jam situation.

Multiple Bus Shelters - Another Route to Money ?

Naveen - 8-NOV-2008

Hi All,

When the scheme to build bus-shelters of 'International Standards' was first floated a few years ago, many welcomed it as the standard of shelters in the city was pathetic, similar to cattle sheds.

Satellite Bus Stands - Will they reduce traffic?

Vasanth - 12-OCT-2008

Most of the traffic planners say to start the satellite bus stands to reduce the city traffic. Recently KSRTC Minister Mr.Ashok announced many satellite bus stands and even in Mysore where the traffic is quite normal in the range of 300+ crores. Will they really serve the purpose?

Bus Bays - Traffic management is 'space' management

do-it-yourself - 9-OCT-2008

If we really think about it, traffic management boils down to efficient 'space' management. How best do you manage the utilisation of a finite commodity like space on the streets? All measures taken or discussed to de-congest, improve, smoothen traffic by advocating lane discipline, platooning, sync signal lights, parking, foot paths, lesser private vehicles, efficient public transport, car pooling etc boils down to this. MANAGE AVAILABLE ROAD SPACE.

Bus stop pain points

Bus stops next to signals and the auto drivers' driving menace  into the bus stops when a bus is supposed to reach the stop:

Signs for Proposed Bus Stops that have sprung around the city

ashwin - 2-SEP-2008

Proposed TOOH Bus Shelter Sign Signboards on poles have sprung up all over the city announcing "Proposed Bus Shelter by TimesOOH".

In most places, these are next to existing bus shelters. There seems to be a connection with the Airport bus service as these signs are often next to the sing announcing the frequency of the BIAS routes, like in the photo (the existing bus shelter was behind me as I took the photo).
