Petition to CM to end BMTC/KSRTC monopoly

murali772 - 24-APR-2009

The bus is now beginning to re-establish its position as the primary mode for public transport. And, of course, the importance of public transport is a now a no-brainer. Given this scenario, government monopolies (BMTC & KSRTC) occupying this critical space is an anomaly that cannot be suffered any longer.

Ethanol - An Alternative Fuel

Naveen - 17-APR-2009

It is heartening to know that KSRTC is testing a bus using ethanol as an alternative fuel to diesel.

India Road Transport Service Efficiency Study

murali772 - 10-DEC-2008

Though rather dated (November 1, 2005), the study by the World Bank recommending privatisation of Inter-City Bus Services, is gaining greater currency by the day. As such, even if the jury is out on whether privatisation can work in cities, the argument in support of the same, as far as Inter-City Bus Services is concerned, is too persuasive to be ignored any longer.

The Challenged Private Sector

murali772 - 2-NOV-2008

Private bus operators at Kalasipalyam, who have been transporting commuters for about 60 years now, still await the day they will get a separate bus stand. There are about 250 private buses that ply daily between the City Market and nearby Hosur, Kolar, Magadi, Tumkur and Chikballapur.

So, will BMTC do one of this?

silkboard - 12-OCT-2008

I was waiting for one of these two to happen. What if:

  1. BMTC bids to operate buses in liberalized UP transport sector?
  2. BMRC (Bangalore Metro) orders its own fleet of buses to make sure it gets good numbers to reliably reach all their stations?

Satellite Bus Stands - Will they reduce traffic?

Vasanth - 12-OCT-2008

Most of the traffic planners say to start the satellite bus stands to reduce the city traffic. Recently KSRTC Minister Mr.Ashok announced many satellite bus stands and even in Mysore where the traffic is quite normal in the range of 300+ crores. Will they really serve the purpose?

1 Rupee Offer for Volvo in Mysore for Dasara - Problems to tourists

Vasanth - 3-OCT-2008

This Dasara Season they started the 1 ruppee offer in Mysore from City Bus Stand to Chamundi Hills. Volvos were running full without space to stand even. Also they have introduced 5 rupees travel in Volvo anywhere in Mysore. 10 city volvos from BMTC has been sent to Mysore. How this will cause convenience to tourists?

Do we need this?

Ravi_D - 11-SEP-2008

Have you seen this one?

Apart from Volvo goody, here is something interesting and concerning.

A Rs 1,000-crore, 45-storey interchange terminal where BMTC, KSRTC and Namma Metro services would converge, would come up at the Majestic bus stand, the minister said and added that the construction work on it would begin shortly.

Urban Transportation reforms around the BMLTA concept

silkboard - 2-JUL-2008

In the telecom space, you have TRAI which is a national level regulatory body. Rightly so, since telecom networks have national footprint through interconnections, it need not be looked at as a state subject. Drawing a parallel for our state, think of extending BMLTA concept - a Karnataka state land transport authority (KSLTA). Why so? Because we want efficient two or three change connectivity from Whitefield to Haradanahalli as well, and not just to Jayanagar or Malleswaram. Just like the primary schools, every region needs good connectivity.

KSRTC's AWATAR

Vasanth - 26-JUN-2008

Whenever I try to book a ticket on the KSRTC's website online, it always says 'Server Busy'. This was inagurated grandly by KSRTC to show that they are capable just like Indian Railways, but, their franchisees KSRTC Booking Counters were worried.  To make the booking only through Franchisees and have online booking for namesake, whenever  you login to KSRTC website with your login, you will get a server busy 'clean message'. This is not from the server, but from a  very good responsive page with delibrate message - Not any HTTP 500 or any other message.
