Reviving Puttenahalli Lake

A couple of years ago, Puttenahalli Lake, JP Nagar 7th Phase (near Brigade Millennium) was a garbage dump. Today it is filled up with a fair amount of fresh water with 200 trees around and is home to more than 50 species of birds, including European migratories. My wife and three others, along with the BBMP, were instrumental in bringing the lake back from the brink of extinction.

Bellandur lake revival!! Who killed it in the first place?

When Sunita Rao called me yesterday evening, about Bellandur Lake, we talked about diverting the storm water drain sewage water being discharged into the Lake. I must admit of my folly. The basic question is why is the sewage water flowing in the Storm water Drain in the first place?!!!! The reason is obvious!

A meeting has been arranged with United Way Bengaluru who have been entrusted with maintenance activities for 11 lakes in Bengaluru. This meeting is to understand what their scope of work is? What they are going to be doing in these lakes? How can we advocate or collaborate in their efforts.

I see that one of the lakes adjoining the outer ring road-Mahadevapura, is being filled with the debris coming from the nearby flyover construction. This lake is in B Narayanapura, just bang on the side of the outer ring road. Daily, truck load of debris from the near by flyover construction site (at Mahadevapura junction) is being dumped into this lake.
