Most of the traffic planners say to start the satellite bus stands to reduce the city traffic. Recently KSRTC Minister Mr.Ashok announced many satellite bus stands and even in Mysore where the traffic is quite normal in the range of 300+ crores. Will they really serve the purpose? |

1 Rupee Offer for Volvo in Mysore for Dasara - Problems to tourists Vasanth - 3-OCT-2008
This Dasara Season they started the 1 ruppee offer in Mysore from City Bus Stand to Chamundi Hills. Volvos were running full without space to stand even. Also they have introduced 5 rupees travel in Volvo anywhere in Mysore. 10 city volvos from BMTC has been sent to Mysore. How this will cause convenience to tourists? |

To compensate for the losses in the regular operations, BMTC is now having to look at newer and newer avenues, though in the process they may be deviating totally from their original mandate. The increased contract services for schools and IT sector companies, etc are a part of all that. |

My views on BRT have been known for a while on Praja. I am not anti or pro any model. I believe a place has a thing and a thing has a place. First we must be able to justify BRTS on basis of need, then it should be implementable on given corridor (just being able to implement without demonstrated need is no good). Here is an algorithm which I would use -

We never seem to learn.... Shirday ghat is back to square one. Neither the Bus Lobby want Trains to Mangalore nor does the Iron Ore/Lorry Lobby want a freight corridor. Both want to desperately use Shirady Ghat. This Shirady Ghat fiasco has become a symbol of how powerful lobbies have become in our "people's republic" of India. We we as a strong nation can rock America and the rest of the world by signing a nuclear deal, we do not even have to power to curtail lobbies in Karnataka. |
