Abide - all the right noises

tsubba - 29-JUN-2008

#1. at yesterday's meet, the media reports that while the CM spoke on finances and the big picture, the heads of various departments spoke of issues at a much finer scale, and the members of various RWA's spoke about many nuts and bolts issues[1]. (Added later: After I have written all that I have written, I observed a curiously familiar position on sakrama, property taxes and egovernance by a name very familiar. I am 99.87% sure that our own Silkboard has found mention in that article. which means he was there. So he will defintely post his field notes. You can ignore this post.)

Government Education in Bangalore

gowriv - 25-JUN-2008

At times it seems that Bangalore citizens have forgotten that their government schools exist.

More than half of the schools in Bangalore are private unaided schools, while in the entire state of Karnataka, 81% of schools are government schools. Government schools are seen as a school of last resort, and face high dropout. Children who do survive government schooling often end up without basic skills -- reading, writing, and arithmetic. Still, there are more than 200,000 children attending government schools in our city.

How should the govt finance infrastructure building in Bangalore?

* A blanket cess (build a pool for any project) * Cess with a purpose (first tell me the project) * Keep off my pockets (where are my tax rupees)

A Dangerous Trend

tsubba - 23-JUN-2008

Since taking charge, CM Shri Yeddyurappa has spoken about his plans and ideas on a wide range of issues. But one thing he has been silent about is the issue of election to Bangalore's ULBs.

Policing the Police

murali772 - 16-APR-2008

I was on my daily dinner routine. Happened to see this on-duty police person walking out of his official patrol van called ‘Hoysala'. He walked up to the cashier of this local restaurant, grabbed some money, and was matter-of-factly walking back. Not that this was the first time I saw such a thing - but, I don't know what became of me (perhaps Bollywood effect?).

Bangalore Mangalore train - Lalu's admission?

silkboard - 9-DEC-2007

First off, thanks Vasanth for the informative update on the long awaited train. Hopefully they will complete the Bangalore Hassan line soon, the zig zag route via Mysore (go south) and Hassan (come back north) takes a bit too much time (12 hours).

BTW, I read a news-piece on this train in ToI this morning, and something in there just amazed me. The piece talks about Mr Lalu Yadav flagging the Bangalore train off at Mangalore, and how he kept the audience in splits during his speech. Now, for the interesting part:

"When Lalu mentioned that he knew the reasons behind the delay and put the onus on the bus and truck lobby, there was a loud roar of approval"
