 One suggestion from Safe Passage folks (CKannan, psaram, sheragu) was to organize a street event at the spot. Lets try it this Saturday (Feb 7, 10 AM). This isn't a protest - no holding-placards or slogan shouting type of stuff. Lets do some street photography, scan the area for all possible violations of (IRC) road building, design, signage standards, discuss solutions on the spot.

A solution for eastbound OMR/ORR lanes

 The mess at Bennigannahalli is a 2 km microcosm of what haphazard (if any) planning can result in- apathy (and sometimes antipathy) to public transportation, lane indiscipline, poor forethought (narrow RUB; non-existent pedestrian infrastructure) and bad design (Cable-stayed bridge) to name a few. However IMO some solutions are not that far away.

The pedestrian chaos at ORR-Old Madras Road interchange can'tt be stated in words, so I tried this video last week (find it below). The place is a live example of collaboration, lack of it rather, between multiple sarkaari bodies. Bring this up with a babu in Bangalore and instead of ideas or initiatives, you will get stories of how things can only fall between NHAI, Railways, BDA, and the Traffic Police but not improve. Oh yeah, the job of taking initiatives is best left to the citizens.

Outer Ring Road project - work first, tender later?

 It was a bit puzzling to spot this tender from BDA in newspapers last week. Dated Oct 15, it called for "Improvements to Service Road of Outer Ring Road from Marathalli underpass to Central Silk Board junction (missing bits)". At least on the tenderwizard site (click for all recent BDA tenders), there is no other older tender calling for improvements to these service roads. The puzzling part however is this. Service Road improvement work is already in full swing! In fact, I have been noticing digging work for over a month now.

New underpasses/flyovers on ORR - a suggestion

 You may have noticed that Outer Ring Road upgrade work is picking up serious momentum. Work on service lanes is in full swing, and it seems like survey work is on for the new underpass/flyovers as well. So if all goes well, we should have a nice six lane "corridor" from Hebbal to silk board junction. Good show indeed! At the same time, it'll be good to look ahead at the impact of this ORR upgrade project.

The Belandur-ORR intersection has become completely unmanageable. The ORR + 2 service roads intersect with the traffic from Belandur. So, this is not a 4-way intersection but a 12-way intersection at the very least.
