India has a total land area of 328 Million Hectare (MH), out of which 162 MH have already come in to cultivation. This is a high percentage of 51% of the total land of the country. The forest and natural vegetation area is about 19.25%, which is less than an optimum of about 33.33%. Photographic proof from satellite imaginary seems to have proved this beyond doubt. Forest (green) is important for keeping the CO2 balance in the atmosphere. |

Is it so easy to dump harmful chemicals in our country especially in our city of Bangalore? About 40 Barrels of unknown chemical were dumped at vacant railway yard near the slums of Okalipuram supposedly on Monday night. We seem to be totally unaware and un prepared for such exigencies. |

Brainstorming Session on Conservation and Management of Urban Lakes - A Report sanjayv - 27-SEP-2009
The meeting was held in CiSTUP seminar room from 9 am to 5 pm. The room was full with a good complement of students. We had the initial round of formalities followed by morning tea/breakfast The morning session had several speakers discusing various aspects of urban lake conservation after which we had an afternoon discussion/brainstorming session |
