Updates on BETL, please

termin - 9-FEB-2009

Can any one at Praja help get status of BETL project on Hosur Road? Points for discussion: a) estimated completion date b) current status of the project (pending issues) c) any change in alignments undertaken by consessionaire / NHAI - due to external pressures / any-other (eg: Maytas) d) progress of toll-collection centers & est.

BMTC Big 10 and HOHO service: work in progess?

Transmogrifier - 2-FEB-2009

BMTC is prepping 140 buses ready for ABIDe's Big 10 proposal in addition to suggesting Volvos be used for the HOHO service. Does this mean that BMTC will remove/reduce current bus services operating on the 'Big 10' ?

Exciting - Karnataka's own NHDP !!

silkboard - 29-JAN-2009

KSHIPI am a bit surprised that mainstream media is yet to show serious interest in a PPP proposal to develop 66000 kms of roads in Karnataka. I first heard about this mega plan about two months ago, and finally, yesterday, half page ads appeared in newspapers with more details. Sounds exciting isn't it, promise of connectivity, and its about the whole state, not just Bengaluru. Call it Karnataka's own NHDP of sorts. Plan is to modernize roads, not build greenfield roadways. Highlights, here they are:

DRM's presentation (regarding Commuter Rail etc)

The following interesting points arose from the presentation made by the DRM (Divisional Rly Manager, Mr Akhil Agarwal), and the discussions that followed:

Sankey Road to lose trees

mcadambi - 21-JAN-2009

The Arterial Sankey Road, from Cauvery Theatre Junction to Yeshwantpur Circle Junction is going to be widened and going to lose all the green cover it has. It is going to become a major disaster given that Sankey Tank and surrounding regions cannot withstand such a large amount of vehicular pollution.

Cross the damn road - Now Feb 7

silkboard - 13-JAN-2009

Venue: Foot of K R Puram cable bridge where Old Madras Road and Outer ring Road merge

Date and Time: Saturday, 31st Jan, Feb 7, 10:00 AM (I wonder whats the busiest time here on a Saturday)

The joys of crossing a road

silkboard - 13-JAN-2009

ORR KR Puram 4The pedestrian chaos at ORR-Old Madras Road interchange can'tt be stated in words, so I tried this video last week (find it below). The place is a live example of collaboration, lack of it rather, between multiple sarkaari bodies. Bring this up with a babu in Bangalore and instead of ideas or initiatives, you will get stories of how things can only fall between NHAI, Railways, BDA, and the Traffic Police but not improve. Oh yeah, the job of taking initiatives is best left to the citizens.

BIAL to City train - proposal on table

silkboard - 28-DEC-2008

Building on the good vibes about Commuter Rail Service, hear this out now. Devesh mentioned that at a recent meeting where BCIC was taking up the cause of those who commute to BIAL for work, Mr. Arvind Jadhav indicated that a proposal to introduce train service between the BIAL and Bangalore city (via Yeshwanthapur) is being finalized. The service would be operational once the formalities are completed. Quick details:
