Vasanth - 21-DEC-2011
I was recently driving on the NICE Road between PES College to Somapura Intersection. My car was the only car and I was cruising at around 90kph. While I was nearing the intersection climbing an uphill unable to see what is there on the otherside of the road after it flattens, suddenly I saw 6-7 people standing in the middle of the road which they are not supposed to be since it is a freeway. |

Safety at Elevated Hosur Road (BETL) Bheema.Upadhyaya - 13-MAR-2010
Believe it or not, Hosur Road Flyover witnessed multiple vehicle accidents at least 2 times involving 4 or more vehicles. Few accidents even caused damage to median, any one can see it clearly. 2 Fatal accidents have also occured. Pity ! - A local "breaking news" channel did not get these news, while they get news within minutes from any part of city. I suspect their mouth was shut by "Kaibisi"(Some offer) . When I drove I felt like driving in tunnel, not comfortable. I saw average speed of 90+Km when I drew. Ironically during a test of VMS(variable message system) it read "All is well. Drive slowly" !!! Now I am scared to drive even below flyover in regular road, as I heard of an accident where a biker flew above side-guards and fell below onto road( and died of course). I always drive exactly below the flyover(rightmost lane) to be safe from falling objects, call me whatever.. To BETL : All the best for your toll collection which is going to start "soon" (Soon - Answer I got when I asked some people at toll. No dates, no certainity) . Make sure your customers reach other end for sure. |

Points for discussion: a) estimated completion date b) current status of the project (pending issues) c) any change in alignments undertaken by consessionaire / NHAI - due to external pressures / any-other (eg: Maytas) d) progress of toll-collection centers & est. |

Dear Prajegaley, Pls lets all start tracking this part of B'lore's Infrastructure too. This was supposed to have been thrown open in the month of June 2008. Now, recently when I was on this stretch, there is a LOT of work still pending [at some points, there are no Columns erected yet !]. |
BRTS – Certainly Possible & Can be Seamlessly Integrated too ! Naveen - 6-MAY-2008
Planning BRT Corridors along narrower
/congested roads & areas can be done by using up only one lane
about 12-ft wide for one-way flows whilst using a similar lane on a
different road for the return journey. This also has the advantage of
wider coverage thrown in for the benefit of commuters. On wider roads,
Syamese-twin pairs of bus-ways can be planned with overtaking facility
at some bus stops for express /skip-stop services (20 ft width corridor
would be required at bus stops for this, but they can be staggered on
up & down directions to prevent 40’ width of the road at any given
point from being used up).

Public Bus Transport – The Fare /Quality Nexus Naveen - 1-MAY-2008
Unlike international practices, public transport, mainly bus services in India being a low-income country, have generally been governed by low fares at low levels of service. One type of low-quality service was acceptable to all then & even now, except for the better off cities (such as Bangalore, Mumbai & Delhi), public transport is generally based on these principles. As a result, there had been leakages – keeping fares low to assist poor travelers & low-income groups involves a leakage of benefits to better off passengers. The lower the fare, for a given level of service, the higher is the leakage. Conversely, for a given fare, increasing the level of service will also increase leakage. Most public bus operators in the country are thus, deep in the red, with increasing subsidies. |
