A well-argued case for bullet trains in India

murali772 - 24-JAN-2016

Given that it is a low-energy, low-emission mode of transportation that can reduce costs significantly, India should not miss the opportunity to develop high-speed rail

- - -HSR is a better option in terms of energy efficiency, carbon footprint and inter-city travel time than air travel

Expressway or High speed Rail corridors

pravn1984 - 5-OCT-2009

I came across this  draft report about the proposed plan for creating expressway in india. www.morth.nic.in/writereaddata/sublinkimages/DFR_Expressway9202196751.pdf

What makes HSRL so attractive?!

blrsri - 22-JUN-2009

"After several bureaucratic hitches, the Rs 5,767-crore project has gathered steam. The 34-km high-speed rail link will start from MG Road, run along the right side of National Highway up to BIA. "

The HSRL has got the Viability Gap Funding(VGF) from the Centre..

Hi-Speed Rail - A ReThink

Naveen - 20-FEB-2009

Hi Folks,

It does seem a hugely expensive exercise that would cater to perhaps, a few thousand each day. At first look, it does seem a questionable investment decision with dubious rationale - is this really so ?

A few points that may be pondered over ---

Train to Airport over High Speed - Prof Sreehari's points

Proposed BIAL station

Continuing on the proposals to start Trains to BIA on South Western Railway's tracks, some of us got a note from Prof Sreehari where he is arguing for investment on this Railway system (CRS) over the proposed High Speed Rail Link (HSRL). News reports have suggested that HSRL is almost dead. The current action on CRS is likely a related event. Here is the note from Prof Sreehari (see below) with some details:

Sanity Check: A Namma Metro link to Bengaluru International Airport

Devesh - 17-NOV-2008

About 40 days ago, I had raised the issue of a "Sanity Check" on the proposed High Speed Rail Link (HSRL) to Bengaluru International Airport. The issues I raised were :

  • Sanity Check 1: Who is the target customer of the HSRL ?
  • Sanity Check 2: Convenience
  • Sanity Check 3: Close integration with Namma Metro and BMTC
  • Sanity Check 4: Affordability
  • Sanity Check 5: Financial Viability

Integrating HSRL and Metro- A thought?

Transmogrifier - 28-OCT-2008

I'm not sure where the High Speed Rail Link to BIAL stands now (Is it still on?). If not, the forum below might be redundant. But if it is and the present alignment stands, integrating the two could be straightforward:

Us and Them - Metro for free!

Metro work 2

Read in newspapers last week that if things go as being planned Hyderabad will end up getting a 71 km long Metro for free! Actually, not just free, they will end up getting paid some money (Rs 1240 crores, about 10% of the project cost of Rs 12410 crores) by the winning consortium. Read it yourself, this biz-standard article - Hyd to get 71 km Metro for free. Stats to compare from cost angle are - 65 km Delhi Metro comes at Rs 10500 crores, and 42 km Bangalore at Rs 6500 Crores, both are state funded.

Fast rail track MG Road to BIAL - confused

vmenon - 22-JUN-2008

I am honestly a little confused on this infrastructure project that has been "reannaounced" by the government.

From what I have read on this( news releases), what I gather is that:

  • There is a dedicated fast track railway being proposed from MG road to BIAL exclucively servcing airport needs .
  • That this project, PPP or not, is to the tune of 3000crores
  • That the ticket will be in the region of Rs200 per pop.
