Rain Water Harvesting on Namma Metro mp - 19-JUL-2011
Driving along the RV Road, I noticed that many of the Namma Metro Pillars now had largish drain pipes jutting out at the bottom, presumably to allow rain water from the tracks above and possibly the stations to join the city SWD system. Curious to know if anybody has evaluated the feasibility of rain water harvesting as a mandatory requirement for Namma Metro? It is still not too late. |
Practical Road standards for manageable Cross Sections psaram42 - 27-JUL-2010
A road is not the mere outer visible surface. It is a volume to be precise. [This “Volume” concept is more attractive than conceiving a road as a 3-D object. Thanks to my visit to CSTEP some time back]. Its underbelly is the home of many services essential for the city / place it serves. |
RWH compliance in BBMP ward # 58 psaram42 - 2-MAY-2010
Smt Sumitra Vijaykumar is our corporater for Ward # 58. The newly formed ward # 58 has the old ward 74 area including 9th main HAL III stage, where our house # 1669 is situated. Smt Sumitra is proactively working for the designated ward. She has organized a regular monthly meeting with the ward residents to take forward the well being of the ward as a whole. Mr. Vijay Kumar the corporater’s husband kindly accepted my request for a discussion on compliance of RWH by residents in ward 58. I found Sri Vijaykumar genuinely receptive to problems faced by us residents. I apprised Mr. Vijaykumar of what I have implemented at my house towards using the entire rainfall received at my 60x40 site for ground water charging, using a pre existing well. He inspected my premises in detail along with his gang. All were appraised in detail of what was done at my place. My actual agenda was in fact extending the RWH clause to BBMP. Mr. Vijaykumar was quick to see my point. Here is what I tried to explain:- |

Rainwater Harvesting Mela on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Cubbon Park murali772 - 16-MAR-2010
To mark World Water Day this year, a "Rainwater Harvesting Mela" is being organized at Jawahar Bal Bhavan, Cubbon Park on Saturday, March 20, 2010, from 10:00 am to 5 p.m. There will be stalls set up by BWSSB and several rainwater harvesting service providers. You can use this opportunity to clarify the procedures of the new Amendment, and meet the rainwater harvesting service providers, consultants and plumbers. They would be in a position to explain how you could implement rainwater harvesting for your house or building and give you an idea of the cost. We are also expecting some more organisations involved with water management like Central Groundwater Board to have their stalls at the event. |

Summer is already here - & it seems like we are already in May, though we are still in mid-Feb. With summer, the usual water & power shortage looms large - & the size of the shortage keeps increasing year after year. |
RKCHARI - 9-JAN-2010
Today's DH says the response to BWSSB's RWH drive has been poor - only 200 out of over 100,000 homes required to install RWH has apparently opted for the BWSSB promoted RWH system. One reason cited was that house owners were finding the process expensive. Residents' Welfare Associations have sought Bank loan facilities. |
