Trees and the city..

srinidhi - 25-AUG-2018

It is very understandable that people from our city stand up against every sort of development plans which involves cutting of trees. The  city has witnessed ruthless cutting of trees in the recent years. Be it highways redevelopment, metro works etc have all taken a toll on trees.

Trees planted but WRONG intentions!!

srinidhi - 13-MAR-2017

Initially when the TenderSURE works started, it was decided that there would be no new trees planted. This was an autrocious decission as there cannot be pedestrains on the footpath without tree shade in our city.

No Trees for city streets??

srinidhi - 4-JUN-2016

Ranganath Swamy, Assistant Conservator of Forests, BBMP Forest Cell, said the existing roads were being constantly used and re-used for infrastructure projects, making trees vulnerable in the city. As a result, saplings can be planted only in “closed spaces” like educational institutions, fenced government premises and clubs.

Rampant tree cutting..

srinidhi - 9-JUL-2015

Bangalore loosing its green cover is a constant complaint we all have but most of us have done nothing much about it..however there are some audacious move by agencies who want to keep the 'view' for their expensive billboards unhindered. They go about cutting trees planted on the street in front of the billboards, which tend to block the view if left to grow.

TenderSURE on Residency Road

srinidhi - 12-NOV-2014

TenderSURE is being discussed with some discontent these days because it has hit the road users community (dominated by motorvehicle users) hard. However its commendable that they continue with their work.

Tree cover

vatsan007 - 26-APR-2013

To preserve the existing green cover and add more in Bangalore, there has to be an initiative, enforcement to plant, shift big trees (if being chopped due to infrastructure projects) to private/public companies having big campuses (like IT parks, BEL, CPRI, ... where they can be accommodated). Trees are being chopped mercilessly as more commercialisation is setting in.

Finding that BBMP was not quite equipped to clear the "tree trimmings" from the roadsides, fast enough, following the periodic exercises carried out by his men, particularly during the monsoon period, what does Mr Manivannan, the BESCOM, MD, do?

Sankey Road Trees Chopped-off overnight after a secret auction

Bengloorappa - 2-JUL-2011

Sadly and expectedly BBMP has gone ahead and done what its best at. It has in a unilateral, self-serving, spur of the moment, authoritarian manner chopped off 17 of the 19 beautiful trees on Sankey Road starting as early as 1:30 am on Friday morning before a stay could be obtained on the remaining 2 trees by 6pm.
