Salaam Jabalpur

rs - 6-FEB-2013

This film, `Salaam Jabalpur'  - is about the demolision of several temples, mosques, churches etc. which were obstructive. What is remarkable is that it was done with the cooperation and help of the people involved - without any force or violence. What hope of this happening in our ciry ?

The Delhi gang-rape case has brought to the fore the need for fast-tracking of not just the courts, but all of the following:

Join Hands Against Moral Policing and Attacks On Women

Rithesh - 11-FEB-2009

[Posting on behalf of Dr. Rajeev Gowda]. There is tremendous anger, disgust and fear about the actions of the "moral police." We have witnessed attacks on women and threats to our choices as citizens of free India. To enable people all over Bengaluru (and elsewhere) to express their feelings in a Gandhian way, we are conducting a series of simultaneous peace protests.

Once in a while ...

silkboard - 4-AUG-2008

Once in a while, in the midst of all the raves and rants here, we should appreciate the spirit of freedom we have in our country. I read this "Facebook activists in Egypt" and imagined things.

Earlier in the year, a group of young Egyptians used Facebook to organize support for a strike by textile workers on April 6. To put it mildly, Egypt's authoritarian government did not welcome this extension of civil society into cyberspace.
