Global warming - building cracks? hemaraj - 6-JUN-2010
I had been to Tirupathi 20 -25 days back, before the fall of sri kalahasthi kopuram. on my way , I visited sri kalahasthi templeand saw the crack in the gopuram and was thinking about all through my journey. on my way back I visited my cousin living in Chittoor, they live in an 60 -70 year old house, every time i visited i felt so happy as the building was in good condition even after all these years. but this time i noticed big cracks in the ceiling, then I recollected the cracks in sri kalalhasthi. When I visted ,at that point of time the weather was at 44 degrees or more so. then my thought was that do most building crack fast as the temperature keeps on increasing. what is the fate of humanbeings, without shelter. I was deeply concerned about the future generation . today iread the cracking in the srirangapatna temples gopuram. Has the journey for the extinct of human beings started. god made good things we destroyed.we wanted more and more comforts and invented and polluted . we should follow the principle of roti kapada and then house and then luxury. |
Say no to Karnataka Preservation of Trees Act Amendment - Petitions indian - 20-MAY-2010
Unless tree felling is restricted, our green cover may disappear through greed and ignorance. The GoK enacted the KPTA, 1976, which made permission from the Forest Dept mandatory for felling trees. According to the Trees Act, trees may only be felled with prior permission of the Forest Dept which has the duty and liability to preserve and protect trees. Anyone (including officials of govt/civic bodies) is subject to criminal prosecution for felling a tree without the required permission. This requirement of official permission has prevented large scale felling of trees, and has also restrained people and officials from unnecessarily felling trees owing to fear of criminal prosecution. Thus the KPTA thus put a brake on tree felling and helped protect our green cover. Almost all the 30 species (many major fruit trees) now included for exemption in addition to the earlier 11 constitute the major tree wealth of both rural and urban Karnataka. It'll/It'd devastate bird life and spread pests. |
Minutes of a SCEP Meeting on “Global warming” psaram42 - 28-APR-2010
We have a weekly SCEP (Senior Citizen Enrichment Program) meeting on every Wednesday at 4:30 PM at Mother Tree a beautiful place provided by one of our SCEP members We were about 20 senior citizens at this meeting to day. It was a very hot evening and the welcome rain was the saving grace. The speaker of the day was Ms Arun Shivasaran a young and upcoming Architect of repute. The speaker started the talk on a poignant note of alluding to the commonly used greeting when we meet viz “how are you” meaning how is your health. Now it is high time we talk about global warming instead. For Architects it is now common to grade Silver gold and platinum standards based on Global warming compliance. |
