Early Bangalore as seen from Bus Route # 11

E.R. Ramachandran - 19-MAY-2009

Bangalore in Fifties and Sixties was still a Pensioners’ Paradise and very much a sleepy town. It was mostly divided into City and Cantonment with Basavanagudi and Malleshwaram well known among its residential areas. Jaya Nagar or its famous mosquitoes had not made their debut yet.

Pavement and boundary stones

abidpqa - 22-FEB-2013

Pavement and boundary stones made from granite have been a unique feature of Bangalore. These are used in in pavements and in boundary walls, also in drainage. Now, I suppose the availability is getting less and it is difficult do that now.

Bellanduru is 2,500 years old!!

srinidhi - 22-OCT-2011

Was very surprised to read about the history of Bellandur lake in The Hindu the other day..

The little village of Bellanduru, around which the suburb has grown, has a history that dates back 2,500 years. One of the annual reports of the Archaeological Survey of Mysore State talks of ancient Iron Age tombs discovered on the lake bund.

Lesson - Makeover of Lucknow's CBD street

Clive VanBuerle - 4-MAR-2011

Hazratganj, is the MG road of Lucknow – I visited recently since the wife is from Lucknow. I loved the old world feel of the city with its eco friendly cycle rickshaws, old stores, familiar bookstores etc – the cold north Indian December weather added to the “good feeling” but what really got me impressed was a brave project – the Hazrathganj makeover!

Traffic cop with a heart

shas3n - 20-JUL-2007

Several times I have been harrassed by traffic police. I have even been fined on a one-way inspite of going in the correct direction. I kept arguing and the cop kept threatening me with words like warrant, summons etc. Finally I ended up paying 100 Rs fine inspite of following all the rules. That had left a bitter taste in my mouth about traffic police.

Not related to Bangalore ... Just read this article on NYT, and thought of sharing the idea.

I think that my tags of "wishful thinking" "foolish expectations" are appropriate.
