A non-stop Fast Public Transport Service on Elevated Road from Silkboard To Electronic City

dvsquare - 19 April, 2011 | Bangalore | BMTC | Hosur Road | Bus | Elevated Roads | suggestion | Electronics City | Transportation | public transport | public transport | Traffic

A few days back, I had to go to Electronics city with a friend of mine, I rarely go towards that side (Hosur Road) generally. And that was the first time, we took the Elevated Flyover over the Hosur Road. I thought of an idea/suggestion that if a BMTC mini-bus kind of vehicle can just do a to-and-fro from Start of the Flyover (near SilkBoard) and Electronics-City toll-post. It will be a non-stop service and will be very fast. The regular buses will still flow on the Hosur road with all the bus-stops. This will be very beneficial for the people coming from other regions (other than any stop on hosur road) and want to go to E-city. For eg, as people who stay in Koramangala or madivala, can come till sikboard (by public or private transport), and then take a non-stop public transport on that Elevated Flyover. It will have a numerous advantages-

(1) People who travel by private vehicles, can park their vehicles before Start of the flyover (something needs to be done for getting the parking space), and hop onto the non-stop public transport. It will be a little costly than the buses flowing down the road, but it will help in saving their time.

(2) People will be more encouraged to take the full public transport seeing so fast hassle free public transport on the elevated highway, they may be encouraged to take the full path on public transport, in that case we are even avoiding point-1 and as well as giving a good incentives to the citizens to take the bus.

(3) There will be less traffic on the roads in the E-City, because the day I travelled to E-city, I was impressed with the elevated road, but then thought, there are many apartment-buildings coming up in E-city, how the narrow lanes inside E-city will take that load. By this suggestion, we can atleast reduce the private vehicles traffic coming to E-city.

There may be many more such good points in favour of this idea, others can point out those too.

I am not very sure, how great this idea can be, I might have overlooked some obvious reason of non-feasiblity of the same. Provide your feedback on the same and if possible, lets push for it.

I heard a bus has been started from SilkBoard to EC non-stop using BETL

@Bheema,

Ya, I will be most interested, I will let you know about the same if nothing important/personal come at the same time.

Raised this time and again

naveen_blr - 20 April, 2011 - 06:49

I have raised this many a times , BMTC using NICE/BETL it can add new routes or make some routes as non-stop buses for BETL/EC or atleast KSRTC can have non-stop buses for interstate commute. Think of people wanting to go to Tumkur from EC using NICE would be such a wonderful option. same goes with all other routes. but BMTC which is reducing the number of buses now doesnt want to think innovative.

been proposed earlier..

blrpraj - 25 April, 2011 - 21:25

Definitely agree; I had  proposed a similar system earlier but on a larger scale though and taking into account urb; take a look at this -

http://praja.in/en/blog/blrpraj/2009/09/18/draft-document-detailing-requirements-efficient-public-transport-system

I have entered this request/feedback in BMTC's feedback system. Lets see what happens.

@Bheema, I think you have followed up with BMTC many times, any idea, how can I make them response to my feedback.

Following is the snapshot of the feedback to BMTC.

fancy bus lanes

rackstar - 8 June, 2011 - 03:15

BBMP wants fancy BRTS bus lanes, but not making use of existing traffic free route. Some of the volvo buses could be routed over BETL elevated expressway. Similarly it can use NICE road too, let them charge more ticket price for those routes, and run only if those routes are profitable.

@Deepak

Bheema.Upadhyaya - 8 June, 2011 - 05:17

That reminds me to start followup my case again. Well, I sent email to Chief Traffic Controller too, which I got response within few hours, but no action though. BMTC is good in giving response without proposed solution/action plan or action taken or proposed action.

All the best.

Think about the BMTC, they don't have to shell much money while going over the elevated road, tickets can be priced accordingly to make sure that they don't loose any extra in doing this, but gain a few paise.

But, I see some consipiracy here than any laziness from BMTC. It may be a pressure from private firms's bribing BMTC schemes where BMTC is sitting idle. I remember reading in newspaper a few months back about Hosur Road elevated Road, developer (getting toll money) was hoping to more and more vehicles going above the road in coming days, as there are signals and traffic down road. Does that also asys silently that they may be bullying BMTC not to operate any public transport, otherwise a lot of private vehicles will get shifted to public and less money to builder.

Bus has been started

sanjayv - 6 August, 2011 - 03:00

Somebody I know found and took this bus on Wednesday.  He was thrilled to reach E-City in 15 minutes from Silkboard.  However, there are couple of interesting realizations.  The bus reaches via the flyover ramp, which cuts off many people working in and near HP.  Second, if you have ever taken a bus from Silkboard to E City - many people get off from the bus along the way.

Only way is...

Bheema.Upadhyaya - 8 July, 2011 - 05:05

..to visit their office at Shanthinagar. Actually I am following BMTC regarding creation of facebook page for BMTC like BTP. They suggested me to visit their office at Shanthinagar. So I am planning to visit their office next Saturday at around 12noon. If you can make it up, we can meet each other and BMTC staff as well.

Its long since I met BMTC official with Rajarao and Sreevatsa.

@Bheema

dvsquare - 8 July, 2011 - 04:59

hey, I have wrote a mail to Chief Traffic Controller as well, but I didn't get any response.

Any idea from your previous experiences, how to follow up further on to get the reasons for not-doing the same, or atleast feasibility constraints for this not happening or whatever?

Deepak

Created a survey

dvsquare - 10 July, 2011 - 16:11

I have created a survey here.

Please help me have a good useful feedbacks on this suggestion, before we have a meet with BMTC chief in person.

Deepak

A similar non-stop, or very limited stop might also be needed to ITPL from Majestic. Let them start stopping after Marathalli Bridge where the companies start. So many people commute from Vijaynagar, Basaveshwarnagar, Rajajinagar etc using 335E and their journey becomes too long with this 'Kai thoridalli nilluve' service of V335E. If they could start with non-stop service from Majestic, it would migrate more car using crowd.

I am not sure any such non-stop would be feasible in the current scenarios, where buses stop anywhere they want, irrespective of bus-stops and bus-bays, and people hop-on anywhere from middle of signal to the middle of the road.

The one I proposed is actually a non-stop for everybody, distance covered in one shot is total 11 km of that elevated flyover, which no public transport is making use of right now. If PT starts using that, more and more people can be brought to use the public transport easily.

Deepak

Praja people,

Please complete this survey, so that I can compile the same and take the output and comments to the BMTC, and let them comment on the same.

And also I will ask them about the similar feasiblity study on other elevated highways.

Deepak

1. Like add a discount of 2+2(free) when u take a BMTC to BAIL

2. Buses via NICE Road from Tumkur Road/Kengeri/BG Road/

3.Non-Stop Service to ITPL/EC/Whitefield from Marathalli/Silkboard

4.Talk to companies for bearing some % of BMTC bus pass like -CTS does as part of CSR(Corporate Social Responsibility)

People can add more.

Daily pass

rackstar - 18 July, 2011 - 05:42

BETL daily pass allows as many travel in a day. BMTC can employ just 2 Non-AC buses and 2 daily passes and make for bus on this stretch with as high frequency of one every 10 minutes. It can take U turn under silk board flyover and can make a small route through electronic city for last mile connectivity. It would be as good as a BRTS service without any investment. There are hardly any stops so people dont really demand an AC bus.

Great to hear that its heard

dvsquare - 7 August, 2011 - 08:11

Its really great to see that BMTC tried to run a trial run for the same.

Ya, I agree, I knew it beforehand that some issues still need to be resolved like - How to cater to all the people who want to go to E-city (like hp or mostly who are in phase-1)? etc etc

Lets see the feedback and then get the problems and go on solving those as well. (Praja spirit)
