"Local Trains" will reduce traffic on road and commute time
prabhudevbm - 25 November, 2011 | Bangalore | CRS | SWR | Local Shuttles | suggestion | Feeder Service | Commute | Commuter rail | local train | Namma Railu | Commuter rail | Commuters | bmtc,feeder,new routes | Commuter Rail Service | optimum commute
Dear Respected All,
Citizens of Bangalore are affected by heavy traffic every day. Time to find alternate modes of transportation. A mass transportation system is the need of the hour. With few City Buses and private buses operating in out-skirts of Bangalore reduce bit of traffic but not solving the full traffic problem on road. Every day, commute time to home - work - home is increasing and frustrating for every citizens.
I feel there are viable solutions apart from City Buses, Private Buses, Autorikshaws, Metro-rail (will take significant amount of time to complete).
“Commuter Rail Service” or "Local Trains" like in Mumbai/Chennai/Hyderabad is the needed with proper support of BMTC to provide feeder service. Much of infrastructure is already in place, using it properly and effectively can reduce lot of vehicles on road and traffic.
Hyderabad is the latest city I know, which had started “Commuter Rail Service” or "Local trains" between existing railway stations in City and extending to out-skirt of the City with very low fare, better frequency of trains and better service.
For example, people commuting between home in RT Nagar Bangalore and office in Devarabeesanahalli (approximately 25 KMs of drive – one side) is taking approximately 2 hours in morning and return to home in evening takes minimum 2 hours; in worst traffic conditions it goes up to 3 hours. Spending minimum 4 hours a day to commute is really bad; all face the same commute problem. In case, if government implements BMTC feeder services to railway stations and Trains with good frequency will help in reducing commute time/traffic/expenses of individuals/pollution.
Here is the list of few railway stations I know which can be used for “Commuter Rail Service” or "Local trains":
1. Bangalore Cantonment
2. Bangalore City
3. Bangalore East
4. Yeshwantpur
5. WhiteField
6. Krishnarajpuram
7. Hebbal
8. Byappanhalli
9. Rajankunte
10. Yelahanka
11. Malleswaram
12. Banaswadi
13. Lottegollahalli
14. Belandur Road
15. Karmelaram
16. Heelalige
17. Chennasandra
18. Nayandahalli
19. Gnanabharathi halt
20. Kengeri
21. Doddaballapur
22. Bidadi
23. Anekal Road
+few more stations
Few more possible railway stations can be:
1. Thanisandra
2. Rajarajeshwari Nagar
3. Electronic City
4. Hegde Nagar
+ Few many more...
Utilize the available resources optimally and try to find/implement other better modern/sophisticated mass transportation systems like Metro-Rail, Fast Trains between specific destinations, etc.
Hope the Railway Ministry/ Government will think and implement some better steps in providing ease commute for wonderful people of Namma Bengaluru.
Thank you.
Warm Regards

@prabhudevbm ,
There are no two opinions about what you have summarized in your comment. Commuter Rail service in Bengaluru is overdue.
BTW, an active campaign from PRAJA has been going on for Commuter Rail System in Bengaluru. You may want to browse through the posts and discussions on it.
